I didn't want to hijack the other thread about GLOCK's blowing up so here we are.

See this pic:

The 9mm case head is pretty thick--.177" on a resized WIN case I have.

This means that the case head ends about where the chamber begins (at the feed ramp area). It seems to me that there is very little (if any) unsupported area here.

I was reading the reloading section on GlockTalk and some of those guys load the 9mm GLOCK to scary velocities to meet major power requirements for IPSC,USPSA etc. and they don't seem too worried.  The GLOCK is factory rated for +P+.

Is this typical of most 9mm pistols or just GLOCK?  Is this what gives GLOCK the Kaboom reputation?

Good Pic.

9mm glocks don't seem to have many issues, even with hot ammo.  I have noticed some bulging around the bottom of the case on hot loads but no KBs.

.40 cal glocks on the other hand do seem to have more problems including failures to feed with lights mounted on the frame, some mags not working between generations, etc.  The real issue seems to be chamber pressure in some loads and the area of the case where the feed ramp goes into the chamber.  The case can blow out at that spot.

I have heard that it is more common with 180gr loads but I don't know for sure.

Ask your friends if they reuse the cases loaded for high velocity? IMHO the problem with .40 is that people reload cases time and time again, forgetting that .40 works in high pressure as it is...

Not so fast there Bunky.  A trip to the SAAMI spec website may be an eye opener for many of you.

Per SAAMI:
40s&w - max pressure is 35,000psi
10mm - max pressure is 37,500psi

Everyone calls these 'high pressure' rounds compared to the 9mm.

However, also per SAAMI:
9mm - max pressure is 35,000psi
9mm+P - max pressure is 38,500psi

For all of you shooting +P ammo in your 9mms, consider that you are shooting at 10% higher pressure than a 40s&w and even at a higher pressure than a 40s&w magnum, the mighty 10mm.

BTW, the picture of the case in the chamber above is a poor example as the case hasn't been resized or reloaded (note no primer), and isn’t even fully inserted into the chamber.  I’m betting that the case has bulged more than the poster realizes because of his incompletely supported chamber.

As a comparison, check out this picture of a fairly well supported 40s&w (stock Glock G22 blued barrel) and even better supported 10mm (custom KKM 10mm stainless steel barrel).  BTW, both rounds are my reloads so they have both been fired and reprocessed.
