I`ve wanted a Glock 21 SF for a duty gun for a while. That being said I`ve heard that it doesn`t take G21 mags. Is this true? If so why?

It doesn't take old G21 mags.

The G21SF uses a different mechanism to catch and release the magazines.

The G21SF magazines have a notch in the front of the magazine, as well as the old notch on the sides.

G21SF magazines will work in a G21SF or a G21.

G21 magazines will only work in a G21, unless modified, which plenty of people have been doing.

That said, new G21 mags and G21SF mags are the same, GLOCK has discontinued old G21 mags, and now G21SF magazines and G21 magazines are the same magazine.

True true true true......... I have a new 21sf and love it. I have the pic rail , extended slide release, and 3.5 lb. connecter. The catch in the pistol catches a small notch in the front face of the mag instead of the one on the corner of the mag. All the new 21 mags will have this notch in front and on the corner to work with all model 21's. If you dont have this front notch, the mag wont work in a SF because of the new ambi release in the SF's. Enjoy............

The 21SF mags still have the side notch for the 21 mag release but 21SF mag have a notch in the front for the ambi mag release.

You can modify the mags - check out the Glocktalk forum for the 21 series of pistols:  http://www.glocktalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=186 there are several threads on modifying mags with pictures.

Personally, I'd just buy new mags to go with the new gun.  $20 each?  Especially, if it is for duty or carry. I wouldn't want to trust some dremmel fucked mag I made in my garage in a life and death situation just because it worked fine at the range for a couple hundred rounds.
