Just got this for my GF to shoot, and today was our first time out with it. I was over shooting my 229R and she was a couple lanes over with the brand new G19. I heard a scream, look over and she's fishing down her shirt. This damn thing burned her up pretty good today from ejecting shells from straight backwards to just to the right of her right shoulder. All my other pistols sling the shells out pretty good, and this thing was just lightly tossing them back 2-3 ft, and just about perfect to go down the front of her shirt. She got pegged in the face a couple of times as well. She was shooting Rem UMC FMJ loads. Other than getting burned she loved the gun and enjoyed shooting it as did I. Luckily I was wearing a long sleeve t-shirt while shooting it!

1. Is this normal for a G19 or Glocks in general?

2. If its not how do I fix this? Change springs?

Any help would be appreciated.

None of mine do this. I get a pile about 6-8' out with my 20 lb spring, and 10-12' out with the factory spring. All almost a 90* angle to the right of the gun.

Nothing mysterious here.  It's just simple h.s. physics, guys.  Either install a weaker recoil spring; or use stronger ammo; or teach the g.f. to lock her wrists and elbows and make sure that she doesn't let the aforesaid body parts act as shock absorbers.

As noted above, limp-wristing can produce this type of result with almost any semi-auto handgun.

Teach your little woman to "hold" the pistol properly before, during and after recoil.

^ what they said, probably limp wristing. i had this problem with a friend's G17 before i got mine, asked on these boards what was wrong and they said limp wristing. got my own G17, held it a little tighter and only had one come even close to straight back, and that was the last round in the mag.

When I shot my G19 when it was brand new, I had about 5-6 shell cases that fell on my head. I was probably limp wristing because it was my first time shooting a gun. No problem since then.

+1 to the limp wristing.  Maybe off topic in the Glock forum, but I had an H&K 9mm P2000 do the same thing a few times for a friend of mine.  The slide also failed to lock back upon ejecting the final round.

I policed her grip a bit and the rest of the day went fine, with no more burnt cleavage.
