Well I finally bit the bullet and bought a Glock 19 at the austin fun show today. The dealer is a friend and gave me a choice between the 19 or 19c for 400bucks. So i chose the 19 because I already own a v10 and it will light up a big room when fired. My question is, what ccw holster do y'all recommend? Ammo load(i know what ever is accurate in the gun). Normally I use a fanny pack for summer carry and a IWB made by milt sparks for cool to cold weather carry. Yes I know practice practice practice. Besides the glock 17 was the first gun I ever fired in my life 16 years ago, so finally owning one is neat. This is an addition to my stable of springfiends, sigs, hk's and kimbers.(guns are like golf clubs. Ya can't play with only one) Also in todays climate is 80 bucks for 500 rounds of 9mm good? |

Congratulations on the Glock 19, I've owned one for 10 years now and love it. Of all the different ammo I've shot over the years I have found that both my Glock and I like 115 Gr Winchester Silver Tip the best. A friend of mine and I conducted a very unscientific bullet performance test by firing Cor-Bon, Hydra Shock, WST and some "cheapo" PMC hollow points into a mound of dirt (in the boonies). The Win Silver Tip were the only rounds to consistantly mushroom (for what it's worth). As far as holsters are concerned, I'm afraid you're just going to have to buy and wear them until you find what you're comfortable with. I've acquired several holsters of various design and find that what I carry in the most is an Uncle Mike's IWB that I bought for less than $15.00. ( I have a beautiful Galco Miami Classic shoulder rig that brings a tear to my eyes because it simply hangs over a coat hanger in my closet, just not practical for me to wear it to be honest). I also carry in "Thunder Wear" when bumming around in sweatpants or shorts with an elastic band, I have found this to be very comfortable (and again, very cheap $ wise). No doubt, you'll have a pile of holsters before you're happy. Also, when wearing a strong side hip holster, I prefer a style that allows me to draw the weapon by pulling straight up. I find that the canted forward design is too awkward for me. Hope this helps. |

I did a lot of research and searching for a IWB type holster that I could "tuck in" a shirt over (if necessary) and that would protect the all-important trigger on my Glock. After many reccomendations, I chose the Comp-Tac CTAC and am a happy camper. It is very concealable, very secure and most importantly, comfortable. also, if you choose the "slide" type, you can use the same holster for your G19, G26 and G17. A big plus if you get another glock 9mm! OWB in winter, etc. I would suggest a kydex type holster for weapon retention and fast draw, whether IWB or OWB. After much, much research on ammo ballistics & etc. I was thoroughly confused as to the "best" load for a 9mm. Opinion seems to be split between "light & fast 115 gr" and "heavy and slow 147 gr" - so I settled on an "in between" - a 124 gr Speer Gold Dot H.P. for Carry, and WWB 115 gr FMJ for practice. I'm by no means an expert, but have been CCW for 20+ years and just recently gotten into Glocks. (I gradually moved from a .38 snub up to a S&W mod29 .44 magnum and then most recently carried a Ruger P89) I just know what I need from my equipment. I Hope this helps, Good luck!! |

I'm partial to the BladeTech and Blackhawk CQB holsters myself. If I had to choose between them I would go with the Blackhawk. I like the level 2 security with the ease of quick presentation. Blackhawk also gives you the option of paddle or belt loop options (included with holster). As for ammo. Again the two loads I'm partial too is: Speer Golddot 124gr hollowpoint or the newer high speed high tech Federal 124gr HST tactical loads. What's so interesting about these loads is that they will not deform when going through car glass or clog up with stuff when the round passes through clothing layers. They're also designed to retain most if not all of their weight after entering the target medium. Pretty interesting what Federal is doing with pistol ammo these days. Hope my 2 cents helps. Congrats on being a Glock owner. I got five of the 'plastic' pistols myself. |
