I'm thinking of getting another glock in addition to my G17, either a G23 or  aG19. I love the 9mm because I'm a poor college student and it's cheap. But I'm really looking to upgrade to either a .40 or .45 and get something smaller to carry.

Is it true that if I get either the 19 or 23 that I can switch calibers just by changing barrels and mags? If all the other parts are identical then I wouldn't see why it shouldn't work. Thanks for feedback.

I asked the same question not too long ago.  Here's the thread.  LINK
You can't go from a 9mm Glock 19 to a .40.  But you can go from a .40 cal Glock 23 to a 9mm (or .357 sig) using a conversion barrel.   Conversion barrels are avilable at most of the places that sell glock stuff (lone wolf distributors, glockmeister, etc).

BTW, the KKM 9mm conversion for my Glock 23 works ok with Glock 19 mags.  It doesn't eject that stongly with 9mm, though, and the brass will occasionally hit me in the face.  I've ordered a Glock 19 extractor and I'm going to try putting that in and see if it solves the problem.
