I own several Glocks and my favorite is a Gen 2 Model 19. I just bought a Gen 3 Model 21 and I hate the grip with the finger grooves. The grip size is alright as I have large hands. But the finger grooves force me to an unnatural hold. Anybody else feel this way? Can you modify the frame somehow?

Not only can you sand the finger grooves off, but you can also have that hump removed from the back of the grip. If you do a Google search for "Glock grip modifications", you'll find tons of sites. The way the grip is modified is to fill the hollow cavity behind the magwell with Brownell's Acra Glass epoxy. After that sets, you just sand it down so it follows the same angle as the front of the grip. You can then texture it several ways, depending on what you like. Either do a light texturing with a Dremel tool with a round bit (which is what I'm going to do), or many use pickup truck spray on bed lining for a heavier texture. Full instructions with pictures of the complete process on the grip mod can be found on the Brownell's site, too. Another issue I have with my large hands is that the slide sometimes cuts me on any Glock larger than 9mm. The instructions on adding a beavertail to the rear of the frame can be found in the same article. It's actually a lot simpler than you would expect. If you don't want to tackle the job yourself, there are gunsmiths out there who can do the job for you. From my experience over the past 20+ years, Karl Sokol of Chestnut Mountain Sports is the only gunsmith I trust. Here's a link to his website if you are interested: Karl Sokol of Chestnut Mountain Sports Here's a pic of the truck bed lining used by some people. I've heard people like the no-slip texture of it, but it's just a little too much for me. These pics are from Arizone Response Systems: ![]() ![]() Here's another pic I found comparing a stock Glock to different companies mods: ![]() Here's a grip mod which is not coated with the bed lining. It also shows how the trigger guard can be rounded. I know I catch my support hand on mine during a draw sometimes. The square trigger guard on mine will be going away, too: Here's a sight I found, other than Brownell's, which detail the entire process: Glock grip mod instructions And Robar's site. Decent pics: Robar-Glock modifications Hope this helps. |

I can't seem to find a 2nd Gen G21 at an affordable price. I'm disabled off the PD right now awaiting my final spinal surgery, but when I get back, I may just have to get a letter and buy a new 3rd Gen G21 for myself. Then, immediately start chopping it up! I do like the equipment rail, too. I wish there was a light mount setup for 2nd Gen Glocks. Oh well, that's what I get for living in MA! Maine is looking better and better every day. |
Wow! That looks factory!! That's the only way I'd have a grip mod done. Any details on who did the work? (Hopefully it's a commercial shop!) |
Like I said, "I stole it from GT". Here's the link: glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=611210 This is what the guy did: "If you take your time and use sand paper more than the dremel, it will turn out great." Another guy showed his off: "Little trick if you care about the looks at all. If you use some black shoe polish and buff it in, it will bring back the original color. It won't come off on your hands or anything but it does not stand up to cleaners either..."

Thanks again CountGlokula, your a wealth of information and pictures. Very much appreciated my friend. IMO there is no handgun that comes close to Glock. I've fired thousands of rounds in them and put them (Glocks) thru conditions here in Alaska that would stop anything else but a -------Glock. |
I couldn't agree more. Their work has to be the ugliest I've seen, but someone must like it. They wouldn't be in business otherwise. I posted those pics just to show the options out there, definately not because I'm in any way impressed with their work. I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't like a lot of texture on my handguns. I would absolutely hate that much texture. I've seen some other people do a texture finish where they use something like a wood burning tool to put a rough texture on the pistol. I don't know of a pic I can easily post, but I've seen them here and someone on Smith-Wessonforum.com did it to a Sigma, too. They look so rough that if you held the pistol with a tight grip you'd start to bleed! When I experiment with mine, I'm going to use a Dremel and lightly texture the grip. I'll use a small round cutter and make short grooves. Before I do the grip, I have some pieces of Delrin I'll practice on. |
