I'll confess to get this over with.  I'm a 1911 guy for the most part but just can't bring myself to fork over the money they want for limited guns.  I was thinking if I got a G35 and a nice magwell I would be good to go for limited.

So can I see your race guns with prices for mods if you don't mind?  My big concern is the trigger.  I'm so used to the 1911 trigger and I have my single stack setup with probably around a 3#er with very little take up.  Is there a drop in that I can get as close to as possible with the glock?

-get a G34
-add sights of your choosing
-there are MANY options for the trigger (some require a little fitting, but being a 1911 guy, that shouldnt bother you.
-install weighted magwell
-buy lots of mags

I meant g35, in .40 as I would need it to be major caliber for more points.  THe trigger on Glocks are my main concern.  Being so used to a 1911 type trigger its hard for me to go back and forth.  Are there triggers that can be had that have little travel and reset?

yes. HAVING NEVER LOOKED FOR THEM, ghost rocket comes to mind, and there are quite a few people that sell devices to limit the overtravel and the take up.

I have the sneaking suspiscion, that if you set your mind to it, you can have a trigger almost identical to the one on your 1911.

A lot of the guys over on Brian Enos's forum like the Vanek custom triggers.

They're pretty pricey, but they say its as close to a 1911 trigger as you can get.

Yeah, I was just reading my post there as I posted the same question.  The whole Idea for this would be for me to get a limited gun as cheaply as possible.  I can already get a double stack springer that has been converted to .40 from a guy for around 1k so I don't want to approach that lol.

To improve the trigger pull inexpensively, I would go with a LWD (LoneWolfDistributor) 3.5 lb connector and their overtravel stop which replaces the trigger housing.
They are working on a lighter connector and should have it out soon. They have improved their connector design and they work well now.

I prefer the LWD over the Ghost Rocket connector. You will have to change the sights, too. Seveigny competition sights, Heinies, and WTS should serve you well.

My biggest problem in switching from a 1911 to a Glock, or vice versa, is not so much the trigger but the difference in the grip angle.

Not sure where you have been pricing limited 1911's, but if you have been looking at an Edge, it's going to be in the $2000 mark with mags.

Granted that you could run a Glock, but the gun feel and trigger are worlds apart, much less getting enough weight on the Glock frame to remove the felt recoil down to point of dam near none.

Best advice I can give you is if you have been running 1911's is stay with the platform.  Or if you want to run a Glock, do so in the production class first to get used to the pistol.  Below is a built Para 16-40 limited that I managed to put together for around a $1000 including 6-140MM mags with extenders (19 round counts).  And although this pistol is mostly used as a practice/loner unit, it will hold it's own against the STI's it shares the safe with.

I've thought of going that route as well.  The edge's I've seen from shooters connection are around 1600 though and thats getting close to that price.

XDs where on my mind as well.  I'm guess they are pretty much set up like a glock?

More like a 1911 than a glock imho, and they have a nice race gun set up already. Worth looking at, good luck whatever you decide!

Best advice I can give you is hit one of the matchs with what you have to the run production class, and see if a few of the limited guys will let you run a few rounds through their race rigs.  This will allow you to find that correct action type that works best for you, not what works best for someone else.

Check out the glock section in brianenos.com.  There are a couple of ways to go with Glock for limited.  Here are my setups:

G35
-WTS Sights
-grip tape
-Vanek drop in trigger
-Novak guide rod 15# spring
-Arrendondo base pads(20 +1 capacity on all but one)

G20
-Changed to a KKM .40S&W barrel
-WTS sights
-Sotelo trigger
-novak guide rod 15# spring
-grip tape
-Arrendondo basepads(20 + 1 capacity)

The G20 is the easier one to shoot at speed.  Both are reliable and easy to shoot. Both are definitely cheaper than a S_I gun.  Spend a lot of time dry firing to get used to the index and the trigger.  They can easily be competitive.
