Here's something that I've been thinking about for a while.

Is it possible to just buy a 3rd. generation frame/receiver to replace the Gen-2 that I have on my G17?  (The finger grooves/thumb shelf would be a big help.)

If possible, do they come "stripped" or assembled with all the trigger/internals parts?

Or, would it just be easier/cheaper to buy a complete G17?

Thanks in advance for everyones thoughts/comments.

The lower part of a Glock (receiver) requires an FFL to transfer or purchase.  IIRC, I heard that Glock(Smyrna, GA) may replace your old frame for a newer generation and modify your serial# (add a character to the end indicating replaced frame) however I do not know if they still offer this service if not due to repair, nor the cost.  You should probably contact them:770-432-1202 directly.

This was recently covered over on GlockTalk:

GlockMeister did offer that service at one time however I believe he has discontinued it.

Easier to just sell it and then buy a third gen.

I prefer to second gen myself but to each his own.

I called Glock about getting a new frame for my G23 and they said it would cost $250 and would take about 2-4 weeks to get it.  They also said that you would have to send in your old frame and you would get a new serial number.
