Guys,

I am getting my first GLOCK after I wait for the "permit to purchase". Should I go with a GLOCK 17 or 34? Just a simple no BS Poll and state why you prefer one over the other.  I will most likely fit a Surefire X200 and CT Laser Grip on it.

Thanks for any help,
Nathan

For what purpose?

If CCW isn't part of the equation, get the G34 (I love mine!)

If it is, get the G19 (which will do anything a G17 will but conceals a little easier - I love mine!)

But nothing wrong with a G17 as far as that goes (I love mine!)

ETA:  Seeing your response below, I voted G34.

Hmm... generally SHTF... like as in "OMG, WE'RE FUCKED!"... You know the whole end of the world/brain eating zombies and just another Handgun for me to buy.

Nathan

Edit: I see you edited your post... CCW isn't really intended.

I hate waiting for our stupid PTA's to come back. Where are you in MO?

Since I can't vote for the Glock 23, I'll go with the 17.  I'd really consider a 23 (or 19 if you like 9mm) cause it would be great for CCW if you ever did get interested.

I hate the waiting period... What I loved about NH is you didn't have to deal with this BS. I live in Carl Junction, MO... the 4 State area, southwest corner. You probally never heard of CJ or can even  find it on most maps. Since I live so close to the border of Kansas, and now that they allow CC, I am thinking of moving there so I can also get some NFA goodies.

The next gun I plan on getting will be a CCW, maybe a Sig 229 or SP2022 in .40. I currently have a little Beretta 32 Tomcat Buggun for CC. I wouldn't even think about carrying my USP Tac .45 for a CCW.

Main reason for getting the 9mm is because it is a Nato caliber and ammo is cheap. Good for TEOTWAWKI.

I've actually heard of Carl Junction, but I had no idea where it was. I spend a lot of time in the summer down in south/central missouri at our place on the Jacks Fork.

I'm planning on getting a Glock 22 or 17 this year sometime. I'll probably go with the 22 just because the mags will fit my 23 for range time, etc.

Looks like it's leaning towards the GLOCK 17.

I have both and I'd hit the door first with my G34.  Both have trijicons and 3.5 lbs connectors.
IMO, the G34 is the way to go if CCW is not an issue for you.  Honestly though, you can't go
wrong with either one.  It comes down to personnal preferrence.

My family is from Cassville.  Nice to sort of meet you.

Oh yeah, ditch that laser thingy and get a whole bunch of mags with that money instead.  Just my .02

Hey, Nice to sort of meet you too. Cassville isn't too far from here. I have noticed there are quite a few people from MO here, which is nice to see.

How do you like the Trijicon sights?

Is there a big difference in Price between the 17 and the 34?

Why not get the Laser sight and tons of mags too?

I can't believe no one has said it yet: GET BOTH!!!

I voted for the G17 because I think everyone should own the original GLOCK. But in reality either one will get the job done and at the end of the day you'll end up with both. Plus a G19 and a G26 and a G22...the list goes on and on.

Looks like the G17 won. Thanks everyone. Now I just need to give my dealer a call.

Since it's not for carry, I would (and did) get a G34.

You're already adding length to the gun by adding a weaponlight.  You might as well put a longer barrel over the light.  Also the trigger pull is lighter on the G34.

Just my 2 cents.

If it's not for carry, get the 34 and don't look back.

I have one and LOVE it!!!!!  It is my favorite and my go-to as well

But, for good measure I have a 17 and 2 19's too (one 19 for CCW for me and one for the wifey)

G17 is too big for summer concealed carry that in mind go G34.  Get a 3.5 lb trigger too, I love mine on my G22.  Just ordered a G19 too, the more I handle "standard" size the more I appreciate models like the 19 and 34.  34C is cool too.

Go for the original Glock!  Last week I had the same situation as you, found a G17 locally and the rest is history.

Get the 17 first and then choose another next.  I've got a OD G17 that will show up tomorrow and am already planning on a G21 very soon.

I swear by trijicons, although I cannot tell you why they are better than "brand X."  They were recomended by an LEO buddy of mine to me when I got my first Glock in 99' and I had them ever since on all my Glocks.  Oh yeah, and trijicon makes this thing called an ACOG.  Any company that can make something as cool as an ACOG has to be first rate.

I guess I bought a G17 first.  So there you have it.  Get the G17, soon by a G34.

Why not get a Glock 19?  It is more Flexable and takes G17 Mags.  I carry a G26 and load G19 mags in for backup.  Good weapon.  Still want a G19 one day just to have one but I am saving for a 1911 because well just because.  I also need to build my wife's AR.  G26 is all I have and I shoot alot of it.  I got mine for $400 a police trade-in with new barrel.
