There was actually a used Glock at my small town rusty guns and knives show. The dealer had three non metal lined hi caps and it was an earlier generation (no finger grooves) that I got for $ 520. I figured the Glock was worth somewhere in the $ 400 range and the mags somewhere in the $ 60 range so it was a good deal, plus he's a local small town dealer.

Instead of doing work, of course I went out in a blizzard and put 350 rounds though it (S&B and Danish Nato surplus) I was only shooting at pretty good size steel plates at 35 yards, but it seemed pretty accurate.

I was surprised when I got home that the 19 looks to be almost the same size as my Glock 36, the holster even seems to fit (with an unloaded gun so far to test it). I would have liked to find metal lined magazines for it, but one mag has a Glock +2 on it, so that's 17 rounds, so I guess I can deal with it.

Congrats! A pair of G19s and a P245 are the top two handguns on my wish list.

Congratulations on your purchase.  Although you will find a fair share of Glock detractors, I think that many of these people, in their "heart of hearts" will agree that the G19 is a solid compact pistol.
I think that the price for what sounds like a 2nd generation Glock is a good one, considering that the magazines were included.  You've got a great package, and my unsolicited advice is to avoid the temptation to tinker around with your pistol, and to resist the urge to build an accessorized handgun.  Aside from night sights, a good holster, and possibly (if you really want to), a tacky grip sleeve.  Keep it as it is, and you'll love it (yeah, just as soon as you grow accustomed to the trigger).
Keep your finger off that trigger 'til you're ready to fire, eh?
Lots of WWW reading for a new Glock owner.  If you haven't got a manual, then call Glock: they'll ship one right to you.

Great gun the 19.
I walk the fence on Glocks but keep my trusty 19, no finger grooves, close at hand.
Finger grooves on Glocks would be fine, if they fit your hand. They don't fit mine.
And the earlier NDF/NML mags are just fine too, at the prices they are getting nowadays, I'd rather see them not hit the ground. (If you need a quick mag change after 17+1 rounds, kiss the baby!)
I added new nite sites to mine, as the originals went dim already (meps), also installed the factory extended mag release, after recontouring the sharp edges on it.
Hope you enjoy yours as I do mine.

One of the selling points of the G36 was that it's comparably sized to the G19, a very popular carry pistol.
My wife's primary handgun is a G19 and I wouldn't want to piss her off.

I consider the Glock 19 to be the most size efficient 9mm service pistol available. It is a good solid performer. I hope you continue to enjoy it. Regards, Richard

I've got a pair of 2nd gen G19's.  The finger grooves just don't work for me.  The G19 is compact and accurate and seems to be just about the ideal carry gun.  Sounds like you got a good deal on yours.  Happy Glocking!

Is there a theme going here? I like my G19 without the finger grooves as well...

The fingergrooves on the compact frames (G19, G23, etc.) are too small, especially the top one.  They tried to put grooves for all three fingers, but unless you have very thin fingers, you just aren't gonna fit them all on the shorter grip.  For this reason, I (and many others) prefer the straight-gripped Glocks.  Glock Inc. is well aware of this preference, as they receive many requests.

If only I could buy a straight-framed G19 with the light rail, it would be perfect.
