Hey guys, I'm new to the Glock scene. I have a GenIII 19 coming my way. I am curious to know if Gen III's can accept only certan brands or if it's possible that Glock makes a slide that doesn't accept anything except the factory orignal non-night sights.  Thanks!

Everyone makes sights to fit Glocks. Just make sure you specify which model Glock you have and you'll be fine.

ASO Tactical is having a sale on Trijicon NS right now!

Any gun will accept anything that was made for it.  For instance, no matter what brand of night sight you choose, if the package says "fits G19", they will fit the G19.   There is no way to prevent a company from making add on, or replacement stuff for a particular product.

I had Trijicon on my G22, loved it, any other handgun I get will have them put on.

Yeah, but according to his screen name he likes Colt rifles so you'll have to pardon him for expecting propritery parts that change from one generation to the next.

I always put plain old 3-dot trijicons on my Glocks and have been very happy with them.  Whatever you choose, just choose something and get rid of the crappy sights they put on at the factory.

I recommend Ameriglo sights.  They contain Trijicon tubes but they are cheaper in price.  I wouldn't bother with the extended mag release, as it only causes unintentional mag releases when carrying, and you can do the extended slide release pretty easily.  I think they show you how to do it at topglock.com.  Very, very, easy.

Buy Trijicon. Check the date on the sights. Don't buy old ones. Trijicons are the best. 10 to 12 year "half life".   Bill T.

Actually, I owned a BM first, I bought a Colt shortly before I became a member here...I had thought Colts were cool...well I sold the gun about a month later...but now I'm stuck with the screen name... Over 20 AR's later, I haven't owned a Colt since...

Another vote for Trijicon.  Get the Novak model if you can spare the cash.

Meprolights are the best value.  That's what the Philly cops use on their Glock 9's.   Why pay more for Trijicons when Meps are all you need?

Meprolights are the cheapest, not necessarily the best value.  Personally, I don't like the tall blocky profile of the Meprolights,  They also have a big fat front sight compared to the rear sight notch, making it more difficult to make sure the front sight is centered in the rear.  I think the white dots are too large and obtrusive as you aren't supposed to line up the dots, you are supposed the orient the sights themselves properly.  The Meprolight dots, when it is dark enough to take them advantage of the glow is much less focused than Trijicon tubes.  I also don't like how easily the rear sights for Meprolights slide into the dovetail.  It feels as if they can get knocked out of place fairly easily with a good accidental whack.  This wouldn't be a huge concern if they came with a set screw, but they don't.

What about X-S sights? Are they any good? Seems like their sight picture would be easy to develope quickly.

Tru-Glo TFO (tritium/fiber optic)

The only way to go.  Check them out.

I hear good things about these, but they are too pricey for me to check them out.  They are going for $104 locally.  I haven't seen them for much cheaper anywhere else.

Tru-glo's might be great if you want your gun to look like a star trek tazer.  I have never tried them so I can't speak for their ease of use or anything like that.  But there have been quite a few threads over at Glocktalk about the rear sights being very loose and slipping right out of the dovetail.  When one of the guys called Tru-Glo and complained, the tech rep tried to claim the Glock dovetail must have been machined out of spec.   Then he turned around and admitted they have extra rears made to a larger size because of all the complaints they had on their improperly made rear sights.  Sounds like a quality company to me.

I would gladly pay half price for two to three year old trijicon's.  I have 1997 Trijicon's that I would estimate are still at about 90% of their original illumination.  Or at least about 90% of the newer night sights  I have.

I just put TFOs on my 26 and 17 and like them a lot. I haven't had the chance for live fire yet though. They are bright in the dark and very bright in sunlight. As far as the rear sights, one set slipped in easy but not too loose, the other set was slightly snug and need some persuasion to get into place. I put a small drop of locktite on the set screw to make sure they stay in place.

I just installed some TruGlo TFO's on my G34.  The rear sight was fairly snug when I installed it into the dovetail.  It has a set screw, so I'm not worried about it going anywhere.  I don't know if all TruGlo's have the set screw though.  The front sight is secured with a small screw.

The tritium tubes transmit their light directly into the fiberoptics.  I have some 8-9 year old Trijicon's on a G19 and the TFO's are easily 3 times as bright.  I'll have to compare them to my friend's 3 year old Trijicon's.  The dots are also noticably larger on the TFO's.  I'm very happy with them.

Set phasers to stun!
