I cant seem to release a mag without twisting the pistol in my palm.

Any cure for this or should I start stretching my thumb

Glock does make an extended magazine release, have you tried it?

AroTek makes one of the best oversized mag catch’s available.  Glock makes a similar one but it is not available in the US due to patient issues.   Down side is you have to send the receiver to them or know someone with the installation tool, unless you are handy with a dremel.  I've dremeled the last 5-6 of mine. Then I purchased the jig.

Available in black or chrome

Stay away from extended mag releases. Instead, learn to bring the gun back to your center and 'flip" ("twist") it if you need to. Much more secure and just as fast as any other mag change, and that can be proven on the clock (and has been).

Why won't it work?

Have you actually tried one?

I have actually grown to prefer slightly extended mag releases over the past year. I got my first experience with the factory Glock model when I purchased a G34. After reading all of the negative crap on the Internet about it I was actually planning on removing it before I even got it home. Then I wised up and decided to give it a try.

Now I install them on all my Glocks.

My G19:

It has never bothered me in the least during CCW. I have also never even come close to dropping a mag accidentally. It does however make mag changes faster and more consistent. Stick with a factory Glock part and you will be pleased with the results.

Damn near every single one of the top shooters I have ever had the pleasure of shooting/training with used an extended mag catch.
