Hey guys, Can somebody give me a quick primer on lights? I'm thinking about getting one now that I own a Glock with a rail (I already have a 26 - no rail). How do they turn on - is there a pressure switch, manual switch, etc. TIA. DOW (recently converted, former Sig fan) Edit - I'm thinking I'll go with the Streamlight M3. Anybody have one? Thoughts? |
| I've have the glock light and it has worked great. It also costs less than a streamlight. It has a soft touch switch on the edge which faces you. It can be touched on and off or switched on for constant light. You can pick one up for under $90.00 and it fits glocks perfect. |

I really like that pressure switch! |

I have a Glock light and a SureFire X200B. Both are good lights. I prefer the X200B. It is a 5 watt light and a wider beam vs the 3 watt light and a more narrow beam on the A model. Also, I bought thru BrightFlashlights, the member/dealer, too. Excellent knowledge of his products and excellent customer service before and after the sale. Highly recommended. http://www.brightflashlights.com. Do a search for his name and see the comments about him. Google "brightflashlights" and you will get the same. I got prompt service, accurate order and kept aprised of my order status. Very good folks to deal with. Check and see what others think about the other light, too. You may look at these articles/reviews, too: http://www.imagometrics.com/FLReviews/FL_Stuff_2.htm http://www.gun-tests.com/pub/17_7/features/5261-1.html Good luck on your info search. Whatever you chose, a light will be a good investment. |
Have used a streamlight M3 for about 4 years now. Shot it alot (or with it alot, I should say). Never had a problem. Never replaced a bulb. Wouldnt trade it, except for the M3X. Some guys where I work have the Surefire LED light that looks the same, but I don't like it as well (very narrow, non-adjustable beam). I recommend the M3 highly. |
Streamlight is the way to go, priced right and tough.. For the few extra bucks go with the M6..its sweet and that laser is powerful to more then 100yrs plus it can mount on your pic rail of your AR... I was looking at the Glock combos but the SL seemed better. I bought my combo for 200 !! dont pay more then 240, sun gun shops are selling them for 320 !! Rip off ! Pics to follow when I have a chance. John |
+1 I couldn't decide which light to go with and after reading vandal's previous post, I went with this setup and couldn't be happier. |
$30-$60 to me is a decent amount of money! The M-3 and Glock Light differ in price by about $20 for me... I like Streamlight products (I bought Septors for our team in the field, and liked it so much I bought a few for personal use). |

+1 on the Streamlight M-6X. Its a sweet little unit. The biggest reason that i got one was to be able to identify my target in the event of a break-in, or what I think is a break in. In that scenario the lights going on long enough for me to see their face and verify the threat. Also, if aliens land and zombie's take over and I have to shoot with a mask on, the laser would come in handy. I don't want or need dedicated laser's on any of my weapons, but its nice to have the option there if I want, and I can switch the M6 between my glock and my AR. Another handy-dandy thing that I just thought of, is that if you do have a break-in and you shoot them, it might help to be able to say that thanks to your light you were able to confirm that the bad guy was there to do you harm. Or whatever. |

Can I ask those in the know to post approximate price ranges for some of the light options? I am not looking for a laser so a Insight Technology Inc. - M3 Tactical Illuminator is likely what I am looking for... Is there any lights in sub $100 area that work? My problem seems to be all dealers can not post prices and I am not sure what range I am looking at... I assume the M3 will cost me about $125 new... This is for a house gun (Glock 17) and I need a system that is easy to remove from the pistol for range use and to put back on for home. My finances are tight so I am looking for a bottom end light for now... I will likely look for one used after I have a basic idea of how low of a model will get me by for now. |
There are many options for just a light. I really like streamlight because if there are any issues with the unit they just replace it. There lights can be had for 100. For the extra hundred or so you can get the combo light which I have the M6. Its a sweet piece and easy setup. There was a few replies here of interest at the great price I stated but no one else had followed up. If enough folks want a buy in a multiple units we can get a killer price direct from streamlight. IM or email me if interested. |
| I just installed the LEDWAVE Z5 and will do a review soon. I want to try it out enough to give a fair review. Fit and finish is good. I like the way it looks and feels right now. The switch feels light but have nothing else to compare it to so I would like to try the competition. But as of right now it seems like a bargain at 54.00 shipped. |

Has anyone using the lights noticed a problem with FTEs?? I have the X200 and when I went to qualify with it I couldn't get the slide to cycle. Every other round I was having to charge the weapon. I've never had a problem with limp wristing the Glocks and have put 10s of thousands of rounds through Glocks. I was so unimpressed that the light instantly came off and I took the holster off my belt and went back to my Raptor holster. To say the least I was pissed!!! Ican shoot my MC Operator in any position with that light attached and not a single problem. Damn Glocks!!!
