Glock 19...
small to carry concealed, large enough to fire accurate, high capacity 15+1, tough construction and weather resistance. Lots of accessory options... |
|
I’ll only buy 9/10mm Glocks. .40 and .45 caliber Glocks are factory conversions and less reliable.

The g19 fits my hand better than any handgun I have owned. I have no problems with it. I also have a 10mm that I can shoot 40 through if that counts. If I were down to just one though I would likely stick with the g29 because of it's versatility.

Glock 19 9mm for conceal carry. Glock 21 45acp suppressed. Glock 20 10mm for duty/hiking gun. My favorite Glock is the 10mm though. My favorite Glock to teach new people how to shoot with is the Glock 19 though.

9mm because more capacity, less recoil, cheaper practice ammo. Kills people just as dead as the other two.

9mm
I have owned or currently own various other .40/.357/.45 Glocks, but the 9mm has always been my favorite. |
|
.45, but only because I had other .45s first and wanted to keep things simple for myself ammo-wise.

I bought a glock 21 I am converting to 460 Rowland. I wanted something that shoots a very heavy hard cast and this still cost half what a S&W wheel gun costs. it shoots 45, 45 super or 460 Rowland.

9mm.
aftermarket support, affordability, ammunition cost, size, weight, and practicality. My strongest reason is ammunition cost, it's very inexpensive to practice, which means that I can practice more, which helps increase and maintain my capability with the weapon |

I am a 9mm Glock guy. Like stated before: it's plentiful, it's cheap, it's effective. However, here's where I'll ruffle feathers or may gain some ire: I do not like the 19. I carried one for two years and then switched to a 26. I love my 26. If I shoot at IDPA or need something full size, I go with my 34. I agree the 19 works for a lot of people but I found it tries to do all things and comes up short.

I've carried 9, 40 and 45 Glocks at different periods in my career. My personal weapons matched the caliber of my duty weapon. For the last 12 years I carried a Glock 30 and 30s and really liked the 45. My personal carry had been a Glock 36. I never had a problem with my pistols and ended up buying the duty pistols when I retired. I've got plenty of 45acp saved up and purchased.
I hadn't shot a 9mm in 20 years. I saw the price for ammo was half of what the 45acp is. I decided to pick up two Blue Label Gen 4 G19s and a G43. I never had an issue shooting the 45acp but the 9mm felt so much smoother. The pistols are smaller and easier to conceal. I won't get rid of my 45s because they are mine but I carry the 9mms these days. I've got a little bit of arthritis settling in my fingers so the 9mm is more forgiving. I've also got two G27s that I plan on converting to 9mm. I may sell some of the 45acp ammo that I have stashed and pick up some more 9mm. |

If your only choosing to have one Glock, I would first think of what I wanted it for.
If your carrying, either the 19, 26 or 43. I choose to stay with 26 and I collect 19's. Those are double stack and their magazines interchange with better capacity than the single stack G43. I also like the .45's and the 10mm's. Also have .357's but I carry 9mm. When you get your first Glock, you'll see simplicity (34 parts I think it is) and interchangeable magazines within calibers. I don't do .40 cal. |

If I were on a budget and was limited to only one handgun it would be a Glock 19 or a S&W M&P in 9mm.
Low recoil, sufficient magazine capacity, reasonable stealth when carried, reliable, inexpensive and easily upgraded. |

9mm Glock is my favorite. Specifically G17 gen 4. Ammo is cheap, fits my hand, I can conceal it, it's lightweight, and it's easy to shoot.

I have had and like every Glock I have owned in 9, 40, 45 and 10mm. I prefer the large framed 45 ACP and 10mm models best. I suppose my least favorites were the 40 S&W models.

I'm surprised to hear that the non metric Glocks aren't as reliable as the 9mm.
I thought all Glocks were extremely reliable. I did hear of 40 cal Glocks kabooming though...... |

Really interesting question, in all my years here I've never seen this posted. I'm glad we can discuss.
