Hey guys, I picked up an RMR from Cabelas during the sale. I've got a gen 4 19 and I'm debating on whether I should buy an ATOM or get my slide milled? Non-negotiable are the back ups in front of the optic and front serrations so I'll have close to the same money in my factory slide as I would buying the atom.. I like the idea of having a spare slide as well. Any pros and cons?

One advantage to the ATOM would be switching to different optics later down the road.  I dont think the RMR is going anywhere anytime soon, but you will be married to that if you go the milling route.

FWIW, I milled my G19.4 slide for the RMR.

I picked up an ATOM because I'm not convinced optics are "there" yet.

Right now the RMR is the primary mounting style, but SOCOM is using the Deltapoint Pro and the M17 & M18 are built to mount the DPP. So right now it's too early to declare standardization.

If the price point between milling your existing slide and buying an Atom is 'close'... it's a no-brainer.  Get the Atom.

You can mount the stock slide if you choose to sell it down the road. you can sell the Atom slide seperately.  You can mount a variety of optics on the Atom.

This has been my thought as well. I was just curious if anybody had any reasons that I haven't thought of not too.

The argument is when you go to a high quality builder like ATEI they will measure and custom fit the RMR cut to the optic for a perfect fit regardless of the end tolerances of the optic. Less movement of the optic means more durability during Recoil.

Milling also gets the optic lower on the slide.

I have heard that, but it appears that the atom has the foot posts and ledges on the front and back of the plate so that the RMR isnt moving as much. Obviously it isn't as good of a fit as the ATEi, but is it much worse? I've never delt with one in person to really see. Also, do you find that it sitting slightly higher is much of an issue? I understand the height over bore issues, however at pistol distances do you notice it much? Thank you

I haven't finished my optics build.

But I chose an ATOM if  that says anything. I was giving both sides.

That ATOM is the way to go.  Fantastic piece of hardware.

As far as sights go, suppressor height sights are commonly available from lower 1/3rd to true cowitness.

I've found i really like the lower 1/3rd on my 2 MOS Glocks... no Atom slides in my safe currently.
