If I send out my G35 slide for milling, can I put my G22 slide on the G35 lower in the interim? They look compatible, but haven't made the combo go bang yet.

The G22 upper has Trijicon HD sights, which I'd also like to try in competition before ordering a set for the G35 upper. The milling would be for a Shield RMS which can cowitness with stock sights sparing the need for suppressor sights and a new holster. Once the Shield is on, the G35 would be the new carry optics class. Saw that  Taran Butler competed in that class in a local match last weekend.

Don't want to use the G22 intact because it's my home defense pistol with Crimson Trace laser grip on the lower. That would put me into a different class for USPSA I believe.

Yes this works, I have done it myself. I have a Gen 2 Glock 22 and I built a G35 slide for it. I swap it out quite often depending on what I feel like shooting that day.

Yes, it can be done as long as you keep within generations 2-3 (since .40 first appeared in gen 2).

If gen 4, the slide will fit onto a gen 1-3 lower, however, there will
be a gap between the slide and frame since gen 4 has a different clearance
as well as different RSA.

I found it much less headache to remain within gens mentioned. I built a
G40.
