| I recently picked up a Gen 2 G23 for a pretty good price. Other than slide finish wear its pretty clean, virtually no knicks/scratches on the frame. I would like to reload for the pistol so I am considering changing out the barrel. I dont reload lead, mostly fmj bullets, so the barrel rifling is not a big concern. I am more interested in getting a barrel with better case support. Can I put a Glock Gen 3 barrel in my Gen 2 gun, or should I consider an after market barrel? |

honestly I wouldn't do anything like that, but yes the barrels interchange.
Just reload and be happy. Glocks don't blow up nearly as much as people say... like 1 in a Million and its most always the users fault due to poor reloading. I reload 40's for my Gen 2 23 and have had no issues... My G23 has at least 10,000 rounds through it. If you are going to buy another barrel, get a 9mm conversion and some mags. |

Mostly overblown issue, don't load to super high pressures, you'll be fine. Cull your brass and junk anything that's skeptical, you'll be fine. A lot of people shot lead out of Glock barrels without issue, the issue comes when you don't clean them on a regular basis while shooting lead. |

So in the .40sw, keep an eye on your brass and if you start seeing pressure signs in a particular headstamp, stop using it. Cast loads are fine, you do have to clean more as the bore does lead faster than more traditional rifling. If you don't clean, you might see a decline in accuracy... or even a bulged barrel if you start shooting jacketed loads in a heavily leaded barrel. |
| Thank you for your replies. I have been reloading for more than a couple of decades, more than I care to admit, just never reloaded for any of my Glocks. Wasn't too sure of how relevant case support was to glocking but, I did read a little about it. I aslo noticed that the new Gen 4 barrels are designed with more support. The other part of this, I was going to use once fired L/E brass fired out of G22's, 23's, and 27's. So that is why I was cosidering getting a different barrel. In the end I could spend my barrel money on Starline brass, its cheap enough. |

| Agree with all above the case support issue is hugely exaggerated as is the avoidance of cast bullets. Load within published reloading manual specs and you won't have any problems. Load cast and expect to run a bore brush down the bore every 100-150 rounds or so ( 3 dry brush passes followed by a patch or two gets the job done) |
