I realize the 17L, having a slide and barrel that long, the slide has to be milled at the factory for reliability with the 17 spring weight. I put a Silencerco threaded barrel in mine and a TBRCi mini comp and headed to the range with some Federal value pack 115 gr fmj. Every other round was a FTE. I took the comp off and it ran a little better with the 115 gr. ammo, but would still fte or stove pipe once or twice per magazine. Leaving the Silencerco barrel in, I shot some older Hornady 135 gr +p through it with zero issues.

I'm guessing the extra weight of the comp threw off the balance of the gun and caused the malfunctions with the 115 gr. I wasn't expecting the extra length of the SiCo barrel to be enough weight to cause malfunctions as well though. I don't mind being limited to a specific bullet weight or brand (so long as it's not critical defense +P $$$) as this just a range toy. Is there any +p fmj? Do you guys using comps on your longer Glocks have any ammo recommendations, spring weight recommendations or combinations there of?

Thanks.

why don't you try some other fmj first?  there are plenty of standard pressure 124 and 147gr fmj rounds out there.  124gr NATO pressure should be everyone's trouble shooting round

Agree with previous poster try a heavier or hotter load.  Make sure to lube the locking lugs on the barrel and the top of the hood the lock up and friction could be slowing things down enough to cause a malfunction.  If none of this works look into a SS guide rod and experiment with different recoil spring weight.  I use a lighter spring in my G34 when I use custom loads for this purpose.  Start with 2 pounds lighter and work your way lower.

Sounds like a good place to start. Thanks. I'll give the 124gr NATO and 147gr a try and report back at a later date.

In tightly sprung guns the 115 can be marginal to begin with let alone a long slide or suppressor. If it ran with heavier ammo you have your answer. Sort of like expecting peak performance from your Ferrari running low octane gas

I've had the same issue running suppressed G19 with 115gr loads. Runs fine with 147's.. Glock factory threaded barrel, stock RSA.

Try a lighter spring, also note that you can run into issues dropping spring weight while maintaining the factory striker spring weight (the slide will retract rearward while pulling the trigger)

Sorry to take so long with an update. I am only able to shoot once a month at this stage in life. I ordered some Winchester NATO and Speer Lawman 147gr per the advice shared in this thread. I oiled everything up liberally and took it out in the woods. It cycled for the first time with the comp and x300 installed with the NATO rounds, but still stove piped 20% of the time. Switched to the 147gr flat noses and had 100% reliability!!! I see a lot of Speer Lawman 147gr headed my way in the future. I don't mind being limited by ammo as, again, it's just a range gun. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

Sorry for the quality of the photo. Didn't want to break out the slr.

Mine does not like 115 gr ammo for some reason. I had a few boxes of 115 left and I took that outside along with a box of 124 gr
and a box of 147 gr.

I had issues same as you with the 115 gr ammo. No issue with any heavier ammo.

I've been told by others with 17L's they had the same experience. Glocks were developed
for the NATO pressure round which is 124 gr.

I think the extra weight up front is what caused the malfunctions with the 124 gr. It loves the 147s though.

I'm left with a couple boxes of the NATO rounds, but I also have an unmodified Sig M11-A1 so that's not a bad thing
