Hi everyone, I am thinking of selling my OD green G19 Gen 3 and I have a few questions. I'm on the fence of selling my G19 but the more I think about it the more I am crossing that fence.
I was wondering if someone can tell me what the difference is in a Gen 3 and a Gen 4? What upgrades or changes did they make to a Gen 3 verses a Gen 2? I have never really been happy with the OD color of my Gen 3. I would prefer an all black gun. When I bought my G19 it was the only one in the store and it was my first handgun buy. I knew I wanted a GLOCK and didn't care about anything besides that. I wasn't a big fan of the color but it was also on sale. So, I went for it. Now I wish I would have gone with what I really wanted years ago. So with that being said if I could get some help and answers that would be great. Thanks everyone. |

Gen 4- Grip texture, larger mag release dual RSA, back straps, other than that not much else.. Okay. I remember the back strap. I might like that part of the new generation. I like it on my M&P a lot. I will have to see what the texture is like. Are Gen 3's still being made or just Gen 4? |
|
Just keep it if it shoots well. There are some that will pay more for a Gen 3 OD frame. I am sure you wouldn't have a hard time selling it.
Gen 3 still being made. Some PDs will only buy Gen 3. Navy Seal just adopted the G19 and only agreed to purchase Gen 3 Gen 4 is really not a huge upgrade. I personal don't think it's worth it. It has a more complicate dual recoil spring. It also has interchangeable back straps which 99% of us don't use (just more things to lose). Trigger does not feel as good as a Gen 3. The grip texture is better. I think the Gen 2 G19 was the best Glock made. If you can find one buy it. Gen 2 has no finger groves and no light rail. When Glock went to Gen 3 the only upgrade was the addition of finger groves and light rail. I consider the finger groves to be a down grade. |

I personal don't think it's worth it Sorry to hear that, but again a very subjective statement.. It has a more complicate dual recoil spring A complicated spring? The "new" GSA isn't really new, originally released in the gen3's more than 10 years ago. . It also has interchangeable back straps which 99% of us don't use (just more things to lose)If you don't use it, then you are actually using a smaller grip size than the gen3's, something many people like.. Trigger does not feel as good as a Gen 3 To some, I've got several gen4's that have better trigger feel and break.. The grip texture is better. Texture is way better, and larger mag release is a very nice improvement, plus you get an extra mag. I think the Gen 2 G19 was the best Glock made. If you can find one buy it. Gen 2 has no finger groves and no light rail. When Glock went to Gen 3 the only upgrade was the addition of finger groves and light rail. I consider the finger groves to be a down grade. To the OP, the OD frames were pretty popular, and are sought after by some still. I've never been concerned with my firearms "looks", although I am generally a fan of colored glocks. To some people this is a big deal, to others........ |

If your G19 is truly a ""OD Green"", I will take it off your hands if the price is reasonable and it's in nice condition. I collect G19's. I have 'many'.
I have wanted a OD green but, not focused on it. Just happen to see this thread. I also own a couple gen 4 G19's. But, thinking of it; their not for sale or trade. But I will take the "OD" off your hands if it's reasonable and good condition. |

Thanks for all the information guys. I talked to my local shop today and I looked at a Gen3 and Gen4. I do like the texture on the Gen4. I need to look into it a bit more. I might list mine for sale and see what happens. I have owned this G19 for about 11 years now. I have put 900-1200 rounds through it. I'm still thinking about it. I'm just not a fan of the OD. I should have waited when the shop had all black in stock and bought it but I didn't. It was also the last one the store had and the last of the OD they ever got in. I thought it was tan but I am told its an OD.
I changed the sights to TruGlo sights. They are not night sights. I do pick up the target a bit quicker. |
| Personally, I would love a Gen3 OD 19. I've always had a soft spot for earth-tone frames under black slides (I find black guns boring). That, and I also prefer the Gen3 models. The Gen4 grip texture is too sharp to carry against my bare skin and the new recoil spring is only useful in .40. |

Can someone point me to a picture of both Gen3 and Gen4 springs? Found the picture. Odd they would do a double spring like that. Can a Gen3 spring be put into a Gen4? I'm going to list mine for sale. I just need to figure out a good price. It original came with two 10 round mags. I bought a 15 round mag for it. TruGlo fiber optic sights. |

What's a good spring for them? Is it Wolf? |

The OEM springs are fine. Glock subcompacts have been using this spring design for many years. The Colt M45 1911 uses a dual recoil spring now.Â
I have been shooting the Gen 4s for several years and I like them because the grip texture and magazine release are significantly better. The British military recently adopted the Glock 17 Gen 4. |

It's hard to place a value without seeing it. It will bring some added premium given there has been no 'OD' in awhile now. However, there were many of them made back when they were available. Try listing it. The issue with a private seller to another private buyer is shipping cost is HIGH. I bought a two pin frame gen 3 G19C, never shot, NIB, that was a 1998 build last summer. It really cost me because of shipping fees from private seller. He was in Virginia and I'm in Texas. If you don't get $450, let me know. I will pay that + the shipping and transfer fee. Makes my cost well over 500. I can buy a new gen 4 for that from my FFL or much less from GSSF/Blue label. I collect G19's as I said. I have a dozen of them last count and would like to add a 'OD' to my collection. But, give local buyers a chance at it for for 500 and see what happens. I think you might get it locally. |

My area is a bit strange. I was told at my local shop to ask 450-500 maybe a bit more. So I will see what happens. |

I went ahead and listed it on ARMSLIST. I listed it with all the mags I have for it. Three fifteen round mags (two are brand new bought three months ago) and the original two ten round mags. I listed it for $590 shipped. I'm sure that it is but maybe not with the mags.
I think I might buy the Gen4 that my local FFL has. It felt good in the hand. Not sure yet. I want to fondle one a bit more. |

Thank you! That is very interesting. I didn't know anything about those. |
| I personally would recommend sticking to Gen 3 in a 19/23 sized gun. I had a Gen4 19 and I ate so much brass to the face it was unreal. Glock sent me several ejectors and extractors to play with and none fixed a thing. Gen 3's seem to be better in that area. If you want a backstrap, get a Grip Force Adapter |

If you want a backstrap, get a Grip Force Adapter I have seen that a few times in videos. Read a little about it online. I thought they took care of the issue. I'm not sure what advantage the Gen4 has over the Gen3. I am happy with the feel of the Gen3 and how it shoots. I don't understand why they changed things that much to make a difference. |

I recently purchased a new Glock Gen 3 G19. I considered the Gen4 models, but honestly don't care for the removable back-straps. I do like the enhanced mag release on the Gen 4 though. I have other non-Gen 4 Glock models, but just couldn't see where the Gen 4s were worth $50 more dollars.
As far as the new style dual spring recoil spring is concerned, I had that dual recoil spring get misaligned inside my G43 causing the slide to get stuck on the frame, with the recoil spring shaft sticking out the front of the slide about an inch or so. I had a hard time getting the slide back off the frame to reposition the spring correctly. Although it was likely my fault for not having it positioned correctly in the semi-curricular grove in the barrel when I reassembled it, I've never had that happen on any of the other Glocks, ever. I posted a thread about it in the Handgun discussion forum here. Anyway, I've learned that there's too many other firearms out there to keep one you are not completely satisfied with. I've lost money before selling or trading a firearm I was not completely satisfied with, but it's worth it to get something you really like. Â Good luck! Â Â |

My Gen 4 19 fits my hand much better than a Gen 3. I prefer the texture and mag release of the Gen 4. However I prefer the trigger pull you can more easily obtain with a Gen 3.
Go with the one that fits your hand the best. If you can shoot the two side by side...go with the one that groups the best for you. |

I will be going into the shop next week to pick up my AR pistol. I'm going to see what the Gen4 feels like a bit more. I'm happy with the Gen3 just not happy with OD Green. Never have been. It's a tool and I have carried it and used it for its purpose. Time for something new. Time for a small change. I like my M&P and it carry's well. But I really love Glock. So I will always have one.
I need to look up how the back straps change out. I wish my Gen3 was a bit slimmer in my hand. I also learned today that my Gen3 was produced in 2004 on the 7th month. GKU is the first three letter. Are these still made in Austria? Mine is marked as made in Austria. |
| I have a Gen 4 G19 and love it. I like the beaver tail back strap as I grip my guns really hi and have permanent marks on my hand because of this. No issues with brass to the face or anything. I have run this gun a lot and it's been 100%. I wouldn't be worried about getting a Gen 4 at this point. |
|
I thought I had seen some made in USA. I would prefer ones made in Austria.
Someone at the shop the other day said that the Gen4 gives a feel of having a beaver tail. I have not fund that to be a problem with my Gen3. But I do like the idea of having a beaver tail. I need to sell my G19 first I think. I might trade it in and pay the difference. |

How do I contact you outside of this public forum? I'm hesitant posting my number.....I saw your other thread, DO NOT part it. Lets talk. Ah, what the hell: [email protected] Send me your number. I'm in central time zone. Best time for me is around noon, I work evenings. BTW: I only had the one msg from you on this board. |

With the gen 4's you have the option of having a beaver tail or not having one. The "M" and "L" back straps both have the option. The frame ""without"" any attachment is the size what a 'SF' variant would be. But, the 19 did not have that variant. So, the standard gen 4 frame without attachment will be a tad smaller, that is, the distance from back of the grip (back strap) to trigger. I'm sure we will come to an agreement on your gen 3 if what is on your ad/and latter updates is true. Tim |
