| I am a Glock guy all the way. I own several gen 4's. Any need for gen 3's still or any advantages? |
|
All my personal Glocks are Gen3, but I was recently issued a Gen4 17 and like it much better than my personal Gen3 17, the reduced grip "hump" makes a big difference in my hand. I also really like the mag release.
If you own all Gen4 guns then I see no need to purchase any Gen3s unless you just have money to burn. |

I have a Gen 4 19, and recently bought a 2001 Gen 3 G19, I like the older pistol better since the extractor, firing pin and locking block are made better of better materials. What problems have you had with the current material? The MIM parts are no less reliable than the old parts. Gen4 is best Glock. Better texture, better mag release, small diameter for smaller hand people (I use medium so does not really make a difference to me), recoil spring setup makes it softer shooting and for wrong handed people they can swap the mag release. |

I agree with this, everyone is always bitching about the MIM parts because they read it on the internet, but never produce any evidence of failure due to MIM parts within the platform. Kinda like the "gluten free" people who are not actually allergic to gluten preaching about how awesome a gluten free diet is... |

If you think this is bad in the Glock world, you should dip into the cat fight that this causes in the 1911 world. People have super hot takes about Kimber almost solely based around their use of MIM parts. |

Well for one, the extractors on my G4's were crap, and caused the brass to slam me in the face, no matter what ammo. Gold Dots, WWB, etc. My handloaded 124gr at 1150fps, right back in the face. Both G4's came with and still have the 30274 ejector. Replaced the extractors with Apex units and non-LCI spring loaded bearings. No more brass to face. One of them has 20,000+ rounds and one has 10,000+. I recently changed out the Apex extractors and put the OEM ones back in, both of them reverted to slamming the brass at my noggin. I put the Apex back in on both, and threw the OEM away. |

The BTF issue is not exclusive to the Gen4 or Gen3 and is random. My best friends G19.3 was having the issue changed the bearing spring it changed it slightly then I took a file to the extractor and changed the angle ever so slightly and BTF went away. He then in turn ordered a new extractor dropped it in and still not BTF. My G17.2 with the non-LCI has BTF'd my fiancés mom and my good friends wife but once I changed their grip it stopped. So BTF can happen for a multitude of reason and no one has a concrete answer to why or what actually causes it. |

I really like gen4. The only thing I disliked about gen 2/3 was the fact that the texture is slippery and the mag release is too small. Gen 4 fixed both of these things. Plus, the grip is smaller, so if you have small hands, it could make a big difference in comfort. |

The new gen 3 guns have the same MIM parts as the new gen 4 guns. Quoted:

Understood, however there are issues with the "newer" Gen 3's too, especially with the extractors I haven't had any issues with the Apex or 15 year old non-LCI extractors. |

I never had any problems with my Older Gen 3 guns. My first Gen4 17 which I got right when they came out in 2011 gave me brass to the face issues. I sent it back to glock and they eventually replaced the entire gun because they said the problem could not be fixed. This was after a second return trip for the same problem. I believe they have resolved most of the issues with the BTF. I also believe the initial use of MIM parts led to the problems. Glock Customer Service was TOP NOTCH!!!!. As far as Gen4 glocks being the best........I don't think they are any better than the gen 3's. I also think the RTF2 glocks are the best. |

Also If interval is double it still is more expensive, gen 3 rsa 7.50 , gen 4 rsa 17.00- prices from Glockmeister. 10 RSA on gen 3 75.00 - 5 RSA on Gen 4 85.00. |

I have followed the Henderson thread since the beginning and it is hardly a scientific analysis. Unless you compare 2 guns under the same conditions and firing schedule, it's purely anecdotal. As far as RSAs, I don't think $22 over the course of 30,000 rounds is a strong argument. If that's the best you've got, you're grasping for straws. |

It still "does it better" than gen4, which goes back to your original statement. |
How did I miss out on the last few post
So the Gen3 "does it better" because it will save you $22.00 after spending $9,000.00 in ammo... Whatever. I used to be in the "ain't broke don't fix it" club regarding the Gen4 guns until I was issued one. The grip angle is better, texture is better, and the RSA is better... It's all win. |
