I want to get a glock. I own and have owned a ton of hand guns but never one of these. The time has come. I like the 17, cheap to shoot and the "original" so to speak. Also thinking hard about the long slide version. I like the feel and the balance on it, and it is supposed to be more accurate. So what do you guys think? I don't want a 26 /27 but the 19/23 might work. I do have big hands though. Will the mid size bother me? Always apprecite any input you guys have, thanks. |
| It won't really matter, in the end you'll be sucked in and get more. The 19 or 23 will serve you well. But if you have really big hands, you might want to get a 30 or 21. They are larger and will fit your hand differently. Try them all if you can. Also what are you going to do with it? If it's a range gun or house gun only, get the 17 or 21,if you're going to CCW, get the 19,23 or 30. Hope this helps. |

Guys, thanks for the info. My primary use on this will be blasting at the range. I do like the slightly smaller size of the 19/23 but I run out of room for my little finger. Do the peirce grip extensions really work? That would seem to solve the problem. I am leaning towards a 9mm for ammo cost. I would not rule out a .40 though. Are they as reliable? I can pick up a used one locally here like new for $425. That seems like a decent deal. I figure $350 plus shipping from a wholesaler,$25 transfer dealer brings me to about the same money and I can look at this one. There is a chance I might wind up on the county emergency services unit in a medical role(I work fire/EMS). Is there any disadvatage to a smaller frame that I might want to consider before I buy. |
| I carry a 23 (.40) and it offers me the best of both worlds, larger capacity and small enough to conceal well. If youdon't think you will be carrying this weapon then I say go with the 17. If you might carry it go with the 19. The 17 and 19 are both very soft shooters. |
They can reproduce asexually. I had a G19 that had a G26. So I traded the whore for a G17 and it had a G35. The weirdest yet is the G24C upper that I found one day. Still birth I guess. |

I just picked up a Glock 19 and am growing very fond of this pistol. I'm 6'4" and 255lbs and don't have any problems with the grip size on this pistol. I did however, add a Hogue slip on grip and it feels better. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v726/oldpro24/000_0023.jpg |

I really, really,REALLY don't want a gun that breeds, I got enough of those already!hinking.gif I want to start with a used on but the only one I can find is a 23. That 34 is something though, just seems like it would be a real shooter. Does anyone have a problem with the shorter grip models (19,23 etc.) digging into there palms on days wherer you run a couple of hundred rounds through it? |

Hokie's Glock History: Started with G26 with Lasermax and pearce extensions. Sold it. Mad at myself as I didn't need 10 rounds of 9mm and I could just as easily carry a Glock 45 CCW....my only registered firearm regret. Shot G27, G20, G21, G30, G36 Bought G17. Love it. Added Lasermax, night sights, M3/LED, 17+2 mags. Nothing says 'oh yeah' like 20 rounds of high test 9mm lead on tap. Bought G36. Swear by it. CCW piece. Added +1 mag extension and gap filler. 8 rounds CCW. Glock CCW Perfection. Aiming to purchase G21 for dedicated truck handgun locked inside a vehicle safe. Will add night sights and a standard M3 plus 4 hi cap mags. Go Glock. Also get a 1911, cause you'd be a communist not to own at least 1 1911. Important - if you'll only own ONE Glock.....get a 3rd Gen Glock 19. |
I'm guessing the Sig is your main carry? Am I right? -John

no preference on carry, I rotate them like shirts |

I like my G23 as my primary CCW firearm. I also carry a G27 on an ankle holster for backup. My ankle rig allows quick access to my firearm whilst seated in the vehicle since the seatbelt severely impedes my draw-stroke. I also figured that the .40 is a good compromise between the 9mm and the .45 in terms of stopping power and magazine capacity. A a bonus, my G23 mags would also fit my G27. I am able to consistently produce groupings of 3" at 25 yards with either my G23 or G27. I credit the engineers at Glock who are able to produce such an accurate short-barreled gun. On an unfortunate note for me, I wasn't so luckly with a brand new G36 which I owned for about 2 weeks. It gave me all sorts of problems like failure to feed and eject and was very picky about the factory ammo which I fed it. I was forced to sell the lemon since I could not accept to carry an unreliable CCW gun. All my other experiences with Glocks have been nothing but positive. My recommendation - buy a G23! |
| I have a Glock 23 that I've had since '96 and I never leave the house without it. It is my primary weapon for concealed carry. However, you can't go wrong with a Glock 19. It is a wonderful handgun, I can't say enough good things about it. A model 19 was my first Glock purchase back in '94. It was a slightly used pistol that came with two fifteen round mags. Like a dumbass I sold it a few months after I bought the model 23. I finally got around to buying a new model 19 in 2002, but of course it had the PC ten-round mags. I have since added a couple of fifteen rounders to make it feel satisfied. |
