I called the local shop to ask if they knew anyone that installs night sights on Glocks. He said that they would do it for free and it would only take 10 minutes. Great I said and then asked him if he puts loctite on the threads of the front sight and he said no. He said that they don't need them and that it was a myth. So I'm gonna ask it here and see what the guys in the know say. Does the front sight need loctite? If so, how much is loctite and where can I get the hex head tool?

Does the front sight need loctite?

My front sight needed Loctite.  My local dealer installed a set of Mepros on my G19 and after 100 rounds the front sight came loose.  I took it back and he re-tightened it without Loctite, again, and it made it about 400 rounds.  On the third try he used purple loctite and she now has over 3000 rounds through it without it coming loose.

If so, how much is loctite and where can I get the hex head tool?

Here's the one I ended up buying: www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=6839.  Loctite is just a couple of buck at any hardware store.

The guy at your local shop is an idiot.  You do need loctite.  Just one small drop of red (271) loctite on the threads of the SCREW.  The loctite is what really does all of the work.  If you put too much torque on the screw, it will snap off.  Just snug it up, and let the loctite cure overnight.

The hex tool is available at Brownells, Lone Wolf, Glockmeister, Top Glock, etc.

Good luck.

Oh, and if you don't use loctite, you can (as Walter would say), always get a replacement front sight from Brownells.

I not 100% sure that you do need it.  I installed a fiber optic front sight on my 19 with blue loctite and it came loose.  I may not have tightened it enough so it was most likely my fault.  The day I noticed it was loose I was at a gun store where they have a Glock Armorer at and he tightened it up for me with out any loctite and over a 1,000 rounds later it is still as tight as can be.  Maybe you don't need it but if I had a choice I would want it.

Loctite it...you will be glad you did when your buddy's front sight flies off and gets lost in the dirt.

My 19's front sight came loose even with loctite and it was prepped (degreased) and left to cure.
I repeated it all over again, but this time with more torque, so far so good.
An inexpensive 1/4" drive socket, ground down flat worked fine to tighten it up.
