OK, so I was out the other day doing some work out on my property, and I accidentally dropped my Gen4 G19 in the duck pond, which I am sure is full of crap and other questionable substances, completely submerged, and full of gunk. I immediately grabbed it and took it up to the house to clean it as follows:
Completely stripped the gun Rinsed with hot water Shook off all parts, and then soaked them in Hoppes 9 for a couple of hours Wiped everything down Placed in oven at 150 degrees to make sure all of the moisture was out of the gun So then I went to put the frame back together, and I can't get the mag release bar to go into the mag release. After comparing it to a couple other guns, it looks like the spring isn't going into the frame deep enough, so I applied a little more force by hand (No, I didn't use a press or anything like that). Now the spring actually goes below the mag release channel completely to where it won't even make contact with the mag release. There is some tension, so I can push it to the right depth, and the mag release functions like it is supposed to. I am thinking that there was a bubble or something in the molding, and it expanded, then popped. My question is, do you think it is OK to use it, or do you think that the spring will slip, and I should call Glock to get a replacement frame? This is my EDC, so I am leaning towards calling Glock? |
| Well first there is no need to put the gun in the oven to dry, it its plastic water won't hurt it, no sure what is going on maybe take the piece of metal out use needle nose pliers and it pulls right out then instal mag release, and spring hope ya didn't ruin the frame? Good luck.. |

What's done is done. I say send it to Glock (but you could jury rig it--fill the hole with something; perhaps you could inject a tiny bit of marine epoxy in there or something). I wouldn't leave it where it could vibrate down into the hole over time. I thought about that, but honestly, since it is my EDC, I think I am just going to call. Glock on Monday. |

They might repair it for free but if they replace the frame you will have different serial number. I had glock replace a G17 frame I messed up a few years ago and it cost me $75. It won't be my first with non-matching serial numbers. Not really worried about that. |

I would have just pulled it out of the water shot off the mag taken it home hosed it off relubed and carried on.
I do not want to kick you while you are down but it is a Glock not a HK VP9 they are made to take some punishment and your gunsmith buddy is a real dick for telling you to put your Glock in the oven. Call Glock they have great CS see what they will do or what needs to be done.

You could have sprayed everything down with break free CLP to "get rid of the moisture".
Putting it in the oven and risk warping the polymer isn't worth it, and will usually end with a F'ed up gun. Only choice is to send it into Glock, they may have to replace the frame. |
