I shoot a 17L in 3gun.  It's worked fine for the two years I've shot it.

Yesterday, the slide stopped retracting all the way.  It would barely come back far enough to pick up a round, and not far enough to lock the slide back.
Cycling it hard would get it back all the way.  It functioned fine when I was shooting, these issues were only seen when loading/unloading and manually racking the slide.

I took it apart tonight, looked it over, it looks like the guide rod is tiling upwards and getting caught on the inside of the slide.
The front of the old guide rod is really chewed up.  The new guide rod seems to work better, but it still got caught once or twice when I was reassembling/testing it.

I don't see anything wrong on the frame or slide that would cause this.

Have any of you run into this before?  Ideas?
A full length guide rod would probably fix this, but I'd like to figure out the root cause.

Photo is of the new guide rod.

It's a 3rd gen 17L, and I am seating the guide rod/spring all the way up where it's supposed to be during installation.
I've replaced the guide rod/spring once (with a factory part) earlier this year when the old spring started feeling weak.

In my G34 I run a stainless steel rod so I can swap spring weights.  You might consider moving the a stainless steel rod it will also allow you to tune your spring for the 17L.  I run 2# lighter spring than stock in my G34.

Other than that just replace the RSA they are super cheap.
