Which Glock for a nightstand gun?
Gen4 G21 Or Gen4 G17 Not to get into a .45 vs. 9mm debate, but why would you prefer one over the other? Since size does not really play a factor here because carrying concealed is not the primary purpose, I am curious on the results...

Out of those two I chose G17 because it fits my hand like a glove. Honestly a pistol is a back up to the 590 loaded with slugs that I'm going to grab first. Thanks for the reply. Looking more for which pistol people would want as a nightstand gun. I know many people do not use a pistol as primary, but even if it was a secondary, which one would it be? Thanks! |

The 21
i shoot it best of all my glocks. Though i am buying a 17 from buds the 45 will be my go to hd. a 9mm will be my truck pistol because 9mm fmj penetrates hard objects like other vehicles more predictably. finally my 30s is my favorite hideout gun. Fits in my boot or pocket great |

Honestly depends. Glock 21- For country living (Bears, coyotes) Glock 17- (City, suburbs, Country where large animals aren't common) Not really neither will be better for bear. Both are going to have the same ballistics we have established that service calibers have no real ballistic advantage over each other. He is in the same boat with both pistol just the G17 has more rounds in the mag. |

I have a 30SF in the lockbox by the bed (have small kids) because it fits better and I feel no way under gunned than if I had one of the 21s in there.
But of your choices, the 21... Simply because of the echo from the dirtbags teeth chattering in that 45 caliber manhole they call a muzzle is enough to make him want to handcuff himself when the cop arrives... |

Both are excellent options, but I picked the 21, here's why:
Size doesn't matter. You're going to throw in a threaded barrel and put a can on it. 45 is subsonic and suppresses nicely. Now you won't blow your kids eardrums out while feeding some dirt bag 230 gr pills of freedom. |

My 21 sits in the safe mostly while my 17 with Streamlight TLR1HL pulls nightstand duty. Like others have said, since it is pretty well established that 9mm and .45 (when loaded with modern hollowpoints) both do about the same thing, use whatever you shoot more accurately and faster. Capacity...never mind I won't start that debate... |
I voted G17. My carry guns are also my "nightstand" guns. I have both a G17C and G19 with APLs in the bedroom double-decker GunVault as they're both regularly carried (as well as a G43 and my wife's Shield). Gun, light, and holster all go into the vault together when I take it off. I have a toddler, so my guns stay in the vault, in the safe, or on my person unless they're taken apart and scattered around the bonus room.

| Other: Inside YOUR OWN HOME, no excuse for not using a long gun. The long gun is the superior weapon, period. Easier to shoot well, more powerful and yet less penetrative than many 9 mm loads, less need to reload.....Just a better option than a handgun all the way around. |
