Alright guys I bought a G19 Gen 4.  I am a traditional .45 guy, 1911 and all that jazz.  I am wondering about ammo for self defense what ya'll  liked and what I should stay away from.  Thanks for any info.

While glocks have a solid reliability history as with any gun test whatever you choose for ammo to make sure it is reliable in your gun.
I have seen plenty of cases where two identical guns showed completely different preferences for function or accuracy.
Truth is any well designed and built defensive ammo is fine- while some want to argue the merits of one brand type or bullet weight over another they all come in darn close in performance.
I have used gold dots golden saber Winchester ranger federal hst  all with good reliability

I've settled on HST 124 gr standard pressure (not +P). Having not actually tested for expansion, or penetration myself, I am relying on published reviews. My G19 goes bang with every trigger pull, and that is what really matters.

Remington HTP
Hornady Critical Defense
Hornady Critical Duty

Are my favorites

Not me, and I have a G17, G19, two G21s, and a G27. IIRC, we are not supposed to use lead bullets with Glocks because of the polygonal rifling but I put a few boxes of semi-wadcutters through my G21 years ago without issue.

God Dots or HSTs here.  124 or 147, standard or +p.

And by the way, you haven't sinned at all.  Welcome into the light.  Jesus shoots a Glock 19.

It's ok, it's a glock. They feed everything. You're in a safe place now.

OP, for the G19 I'd suggest 147 Golden Sabers, 147 HSTs, or 124 GD/HST.

Pretty sure mine is loaded with 124+P Gold Dots.

I'm carrying 124 HST in the G43, and I have some 147 HST for it, too.

I'm using 124 gr Gold Dots, but I'd rather have the 147s.

Same here.  Carry with Win Ranger T 147gr.

Although I do keep Federal PDX1 in stock.

Additionally, Remington Golden Saber is very good IMO.  The GS bullet profile is excellent for guns with feeding issues.  Nice round nose for HP.

I'm presently carrying a G-19(RTF2); and, no question about it, I'm also a 45 ACP guy like you!  Here's how I compensate in order to calm my own, 'being undergunned' paranoia:  I carry two rather than only one extra magazine.  I use +2 magazine extensions.  I practice a lot; and, make certain that all my shots pattern in nice tight groups.  Part of that practice includes regular, 'Mozambique Drills'.

A particular brand of 9mm ammo is of no particular concern to me; but, because I'm unable to find Winchester, 'Ranger-T' I frequently use Federal:  'Premium' +P+, 'HST', &, 'Hydra-Shok'.  Other 9mm self-defense ammo I've used and found no fault with include:  Fiocchi, 'Extrema'; CCI Speer, 'Gold Dots'; and Remington, 'Golden Sabre'.  In the never-ending 45 ACP vs. 9mm debate all I'll add is, 'Put 'um where they belong; and you'll be fine!'

NOTE:  The August, 2015 issue of, 'Shooting Illustrated' (an NRA publication) lists a handgun bullet, 'Energy Dump' chart on page #28.  IT'S WELL WORTH READING.  There's different ways to analyze handgun bullets:  power factor, momentum, muzzle velocity & energy; and, I think very revealing, 'bullet energy dump'.  Briefly?  The 9 x 19mm bullet ain't no slouch!  Perhaps not quite the equal of 45 ACP in some regards; but, in modern JHP designs, it's definitely going to get your attention if you're hit with it!  (Which is the principal reason, 'Why' I carry more, rather than less, 9mm ammo, and work at keeping my groups nice 'n tight.)

Here, I got creative!

Federal 9mm +P+ BPLE  My old fashioned.  This round is like the like the Black Plaque.
