Just bought my first G17 yesterday, and the salesman talked me into buying a box of Federal 115 grain HP's that are +P+. I have alot of experience with several other 9mm's and have used +P's in them in them with no problem. He said it would basically turn it into a 357 sig. Are the +P+'s ok to use in the Glock? I know it will take higer pressure loads than other 9mm's. Also, would anyone have the published numbers on this load? Velocity, ect? Thanks... |
Yes +p+ are fine to run in your G17 .... |

The ammunition designed to be used in their Glocks for the Austrian Police is made by Hirtengerger. It is a 100grain flatpoint thats +P+ rated and is some of the most accurate ammo fired from my Glock. However, the Hirtengerger 124 +P+ is designed for blowback subguns like the Sterling, Sten, Uzi, etc. Dont run that stuff in a Glock. It is way overpressure for handgun use. |

You don't hear of too many Glock 9mms blowing up. This is just my personal opinion, based on my personal experience, but I've found Wolff Springs' guidelines for choosing recoil spring weight to be helpful: Generally, if your pistol's ejected brass farther than five or six feet, you could use a heavier recoil spring. Other folks prefer the faster slide speed that a lighter recoil spring offers. If your slide speed exceeds your mag springs' ability to push rounds up, then you'll experience "slide-over" malfunctions. |

I ran across this info: "The 9mm Parabellum cartridge (commonly called 9mm Luger in the US) has traditionally been loaded more lightly on this side of the Atlantic than in Europe. The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturing Institute (SAAMI) has set a pressure ceiling for standard pressure 9mm Para at 35,000 pounds per square inch (psi). By contrast, NATO pressure ceiling is 42,000 psi. In-between U.S. standard pressure 9mm and NATO spec, we have two options. 9mm +P has a SAAMI pressure ceiling of 38,500 psi. There’s no SAAMI spec for 9mm +P+; that’s just a way of saying its pressures exceed +P standards." Got that from here. AFAIK, Glocks were designed for NATO pressures. Sound like you might have Federal 9BPLE (look on the end of the box). Ammoman says its 1300fps ammo. This site has it chronoed at 1292 from a G19. |
wow you are good. i couldn't have told him that he has federal ammo. you are the true masta and i am a tiny grasshopper.

Just some of the +P+/+P ammo I put thru my G19. Winchester Ranger 127GR +P+ SXT/RA9SXTP Winchester Black Talon 147GR SXT Speer Gold Dot +P 124GR GDHP Cor Bon 90GR +P JHP 1500 FPS Cor Bon 115GR +P JHP 1350 FPS I've used the Federal Hydra-Shok and Remington Golden Saber too. Winchester Ranger/Black Talon and Speer Gold Dot are the best self Defense ammo for 9mm. You need to stay in the 124, 127, and 147 grain bullets. Just don't shoot alot of it. |

"9MM. Texas Ammunition Company offers one powerful 9mm load with the 115 Grain XTP-JHP from Hornady at 1300 fps and providing 432 ft lbs of muzzle energy. This round has been tested by police departments and proven itself of penetrating windshields and having excellent accuracy and handling characteristics." www.texas-ammo.com/ammun.htm#10mm |
