I have an issue. I have a Glock 17 with an RMR and a threaded barrel that I need a drop leg holster for. I would prefer something similar to Safariland ALS without the back strap retention. I do want a retention device but I would rather have it be a  thumb button then a back strap cover. I have a safariland ALS already on a paddle but the high iron sights and the RMR prevent me from using it. I've looked around for that Goldilocks holster but can't seem to find it. Anybody with a similar configuration on their glock find a good holster?

Try an OWB holster made of Kydex skip the drop leg.  Worst holster design IMO!

Yeah, I've thought about that. Everyone's got their style. I'm very used to drop legs. I don't mind them. Wore one for 9 months in the desert. Tried belt holsters but with iotvs or plate catrirrs, drop leg is the way to go.

No threaded barrel but this fits everything else you want:

Get a custom kydex made from miller tactical group setup for an rti hanger and go to gcode and buy any rti wheel you want. The make leg, belt molle, slight drop, and a mount anywhere wheel like foryour car etc

Edit. Didnt notice you wanted retention.

Otghex.com should be able to make what you want with retention that works with rmr

That safariland optic holster was a very close contender. Too bad they fit docter sights and not RMR.

Look at G-Code. My shooting buddy is pushing 400lbs, and holsters on his waistline just don't work well for him. I got a drop leg from G-Code for him for Christmas this year and he loves it. The RTI lets you be able to transfer the holster to another attachment point like on a load bearing vest or plate carrier, etc.

You realize he asked a for specific features, and you completely ignored it and told him what YOU think is best for HIM?

OP, I believe 5.11 makes a thumb button release holster, I cannot comment on one tho, as I've never used one...
ETA... here ya go.. called the THUMBDRIVE

They fit RMRs.

[UPDATE 12/16/2011: It’s been a while but I just heard from Safariland that the mini-red dot Glock-o-licious 6354DO, both the light bearing and non-light bearing versions, are now compatible with the Trijicon RMR. The sample we had was a prototype and the production version has a larger cutout to accommodate MRDSs whether milled into the slide or mounted on dovetail adapters.]

I think they redesigned it to eliminate this issue but worst case it's an easy fix:

Thanks, that 5.11 seems to be exactly what I need. I'll try out the thumbdrive. Let you know how it works. Thanks glock forum!

PS. I may try the safariland too...

YUP!  Drop leg is the worst holster design ever I will say that and have no reservations about saying that.  I have used them and I have experience with them .... try getting in and out of a vehicles, walk through some narrow areas with them, walking through dense jungle with one(ended up in my pack because it got in my way to much this was 45mins in), if you are a hunter who hunts out of a blind applies here, draw sucks, and I can go one for so many reasons.  I am trying to save the OP a lot of money on a worthless holster when something less expensive and just better all around.  How many guys you see doing 3G or any competition using drop leg.  Only people I see using them are tacticool cops and military because a lot of times that is all they get.

well as luck would have it I am military, and with body armor outside the waistband does not cut it. thanks for the input like I said I already have an outside the waistband that I'm perfectly happy with for regular carry. The 5.11 that was recommended, I can move it to owb when not in armor. Good input, but wasnt looking for tips on what the pro 3 gunners use. again an example of a very specialized set of performance parameters expected from a holster.

I'm not a fan of drop leg either.  I prefer using a short drop to clear armor.

Great thread.  I need to find something for the ATOM slides I'm putting together.

On chest\stomach is so much better.  It was in the way more than anything on leg.

Try drawing in different positions sitting prone crouching kneeling and drop leg is worst of any holster set up.
