I bought a new gen 3 G19 back in early 2014.  The finish is a light and smooth gray as opposed to the darker "cast iron" type that other (older?) gen 3 glocks have.  It also smudges and leaves white streaks very easily when I handle it.  My hands are clean and dry, I've tried rubbing in CLP to the slide, and my hands aren't those nasty acid hands that some people have.  This doesn't happen to me with any other firearm.  Anyone else have these issues?  For now it's only cosmetic and annoying, but I'm wondering if it's indicative of actual finish problems that would pop up if the gun was ever exposed to rain or saltwater.

It is normal.  That is the new finish Glock is using they no longer do the semi shine black any longer.  The new ones look like a park finish that is very smooth.

ETA the original Glock finish was more like the new one than the semi shine black.

The subject of finish comes up often over on GlockTalk. The general consensus is that the finish is different in appearance but the function is the same- IOW, your gun will be as corrosion-resistant as ever.

I got a new Gen3 G19 around the same time as you, and mine happens to have the shiny finish. I also got a 30S later in the year, and it has the flat finish. I kind of like it as being a bit different from my others.

I would just forget about it, and use the gun as normal.

I hate the new flat gray color. It shows holster wear much sooner than the old shiny cast iron looking finish

In my experience they show about the same.  My G32.3 is almost completely gray from holster wear and just being carried for so long.  Also the slight texture the new finish has makes gripping the slide to rack much better.  My G17.2 has near identical finish to my G19.4 and G23.4 but the rest are all the semi shiny black.

The new flat grey finish is not durable at all.

Not a big deal to me, but it should be noted.

Yep, I agree. My newer Glocks are much more apt to show holster wear than my older Gen3s. They show more than Glocks I've owned twice as long. Doesn't bother me either, so YMMV.

Some of us it takes years to get that look on our handguns kind of like people who fray jeans (for some dumb reason) on purpose for the worn look.  My G32 over time just wore and I hate to retire it for my new G19 but it is time to wear the 19 in.
