buddy just snagged a G21.4 and asked me about the sights. Never owned a .45 Glock so figured I'd ask here:

The .45/10mm guns have the .270/.272 high rear sights correct? Do they also use the .165 front height?

If I were to suggest an ameriglo offering (wants black rear / front NS) would the .272 rear offering and .165 front be the correct combo?

Well I will jump in.  I just bought a new Gen 3 Glock 21.  I didn't measure the stock sights, but based on an internet search your numbers seem right.  Out of the box the gun shot about 6-8 inches high with my hand loads of a 200 gr cast bullet at about 880 fps.  I went ahead and played with some sight combos to find a good POA/POI.  My suggestion would be to shoot it with the stock sights and see how it prints before ordering new sights.  Can't hurt.  Ameriglo has a sight calculator that helps determine which sights to order based on how high or low the groups print.  Just my 2 cents worth.

I use Ameriglo GL203 I-dots on my 21. They are a decent bit taller than the factory sights, which I wanted because the factory height shot too high. As well, the slide of the 21 is like looking down an interstate so the tiny factory sights didn't stand out enough for my eyes.

If he is looking for a blacked out rear (no tritium) Ameriglo, Dawson, 10-8 etc all make great options. Best advice is to shoot it first and determine if you actually need the increased height, and then call the companies and discuss what you need. I know Ameriglo is great in this regard, I'm on my 4th set of I-dots from them and they are very open to taking customer calls and getting you what you need.

Also, it depends if your buddy prefers six o'clock hold or covering the target. On a defensive pistol I've always favored covering the target. Find out which he prefers before moving forward.

ETA- the Pro I-dot rear has a tritium vile that is barely noticeable in the daytime, but would come in handy at night. He may want to look at this option. If you look around you can usually pick up a set of I-dots in the $85 range.
