Well..I am strongly considering getting a glock. I am a tried and true m&p fan. My go to defensive handgun is a full custom ATEi m&p 9. I run it hard and it has never had a failure. I absolutely love that gun and trust my life on it. I know there are some problem ones out there, but so far so good with mine. I had the opportunity to shoot a salient tier 1 at a Tac handgun class and I must admit the experience was pure sex! If you have seen collion noirs video, it is dead on.
Now for my question. Is a salient tier 1 a match gun, or a defensive gun. Is any of the modifications SAI does in any way diminish reliability? Firing any ammo? Even steel? Are there compromises in the reliability for the sake of speed? Thanks! |

Cutting holes in the slide diminish reliability if it could get dropped or dirty. More holes in guns are a bad thing--look at the new Vickers 1911 battlemags coming out (only one hole to show it's fully loaded). I've seen Salient guns lock up when throw in dirt (youtube has videos of it).
Their non-cut open guns still have too much bling for me, but if they could tone it and the price down, I'm sure they can do good work--right now I think they're just riding high charging insane prices, based on an industry that loves fads and some photos of famous shooters with Salients that they probably got for free. |

Why not just stick with what you know and have ATEI setup a customized Glock for you? This. Yeah, as mentioned, cutting holes in the slide allows crap to get in there and decreases reliability. Just have Doug put serrations all over your slide and check out Sweaty Muddy Bloody if you don't want to stipple the frame yourself. |

Send it to Doug and let him do his magic! |

Are the lightening holes really that much of a threat? I plan on putting it in a holster that'll keep out any sand/grit that could possibly impact it.
I had a bunch of cash saved up for an AR15, but I'm seriously considering one of these Salient Glocks. Problem is they're 4-5 months to build one and I was hoping to take it to a Travis Haley course in 2 months. |

I think you'd be far better off buying a stock Glock and spending the rest on ammo and training. Hand a stock Glock to Haley or Miculek and see what they can do. ETA: This my opinion on defensive firearms only, if you're wanting a match or fun pistol then go crazy. |

That's why I was tempted by the Salient Tier 1 package if it improves my gun as I'll be using/carrying it for the next 50+ years. From what I've been able to google, they seem to still be Glock reliable unless you bury them in sand because then rocks/grit can indeed get locked up inside it. Seems really unlikely to happen to me unless I take a trip to the Sahara without a holster lol. |
