I've been toying with the idea of selling my Glock 19 gen 2 and I was browsing a WTB gun site where a guy was going to offer more for a gen 2 than a gen 3. Is there anything special about gen 2's that I don't know?

No. There are less of them, thats about it.

I would not venture to call them "rare" though.

I traded a gen II G19 for a brand new in the box gen IV G19.

Dude wanted a gen II really bad and used his blue label buy to make the trade happen.

I was extremely skeptical until he showed up to make the trade.

I would pay more for a gen 2 frame vs any other gen frame all else being equal

What do you think makes it special? Grip ? Quality?

Probably no finger grooves.

Though that can be solved fairly easily with a dremel.

People like the lack of finger groove, the fact that they hadn't started using cheaper internal parts, and the older  finish were used "back in those days".

Its not uncommon for someone to post a thread when some trade in gen 2's are in stock and watch the guys jump on them like a bunch of coyotes on a wounded rabbit.

Hmmm...just maybe I'll keep it.

I don't think I would pay over $350 for a used G19 since I can use the Blue Label pricing. No reason to pay more for a used Gen2 than a new Gen3.

Maybe for you.
No MIM.
No finger grooves
No rail.
Tennifer.
When have you seen a G2 with rust?

All reasons why I only buy Gen 1 or 2 Glocks and am willing to pay a premium for this privilege.

This is why I just bought a used G17 gen 1 and it has all original internals.

People in ban states like MA can buy pre-98 Glocks from out of state without issue, so if you're selling online, you could probably get someone from there to pay more.

If you live in a free state and are doing a local deal, then no, they aren't worth more in general.

There are plenty of people who will pay you more for a 2nd gen 19 than a 3rd gen 19.  There are also people who think all gen 2s should be $300 or less.  It might take you a little longer to sell and get "top dollar", but you should be able to come out OK.
