I'd like to upgrade my 21 on a longer upper. Was curious which upper fits best?
I'm looking at Lonewolf Tactical and Longer upper? Can I get ur .2 cents on performance and who makes holsters for them? Thx a bunch |

While my 6" custom G21L uses a Jarvis 6" steel barre and a German steel slide which is no longer made, I also have a Lone Wolf G24 upper for my G22. I like both and wouldn't hesitate to buy a Lone Wolf complete upper. BTW, I prefer the 6" longslide version to the 5.5" 'tactical' version. ETA: As to holsters, I have a Don Hume H720 Open Top Paddle Holster (Model 41) for the range which I like a lot. The muzzle sticks out the bottom just a hair but it works just fine. In the woods, I use a Yaqui slide holster. |

Here's my LoneWolf 20L build with one of their long slides with factory style markings and black-oxided finish. I've been very happy with it so far. I'm at just over 200 rounds and after the first two mags, it's been perfect. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/robertlee3rd/74C3ED67-8149-4EF0-BC34-CC31D18C4064.jpg How's the accuracy on the G20? |

I've been shooting it for function and have not really shot it for groups yet. Last time out, I shot a box of PPU FMJ at 25 yards just setting at the bench and resting my forearms on the edge of the bench. All fifty rounds were in a circle about the size of my outspread hand. |

Other than looks, with typical .45 ACP you won't gain that much performance which is the bad part. You'll gain some velocity but with most standard pressure factory stuff it won't be much. The factory +P loads should do a little bit better. However the good news is that you can shoot .45 Super from it, which is a whole other class. Most .45 Super is similar in performance to the 10mm, but you can handload the .45 Super to match the 460 Rowland, and while good does require a muzzle brake. If you don't handload and want performance you'll have to stick with the online-store bought .45 Super (Underwood, Buffalo Bore), but that's a good thing because it won't need a comp to run properly but it's going to deliver more punch than a typical ACP. I think Underwoods offers a 185gr at 1300 fps, which isn't too shabby really, even a 230gr at 1100 fps. This is actually a good thing since really most .45 ACP hollow points aren't designed to withstand super high velocities, but with typical .45 Super should work well enough even if they're still on the verge. I don't use a longslide on my G21 but with a 5" comped KKM can run 230gr bullets to 1400 fps, 250gr bullets to 1300 fps and 300gr hardcasts to over 1100 fps all from the .45 Super, and I'd imagine that a longer barrel could do even more. Ultimately, to keep it simple if you do get a Longslide (I had a LW 10mm longslide upper once upon a time) for your G21, to get the best performance buy some .45 Super ammo. Getting a threaded barrel so you can add a compensator to it will only make recoil less, which is good, even if you don't really need it. |
