Extra weight is supposed to reduce muzzle flip, etc.
Worth the money or just overpriced snake oil? |
| I use a stainless guide rod and heavy 17# ISMI spring in my G34... when I was shooting a lot of 1911, tried a variety of guide rods... mercury filled, lead filled, hollow Chevy pushrods, etc.... when I tried a tungsten guide rod, I perceived a "po-go" action, that I did not like...YMMV |

OP.......I was skeptical and wondered the same. Would it help or was it a waste of money. Well I dumped $80 plus shipping on a Tungsten Guide Rod for my Gen4 G17. I went to the range and did a side by side comparison with stock and tungsten. Shot 1 full mag with each and too my surprise the Tungsten had less muzzle rise and followup shots were quicker.
After this finding I decided to invest in one for my G30s. Again side by side comparison and the Tungsten was ALOT easier to manage and followup than the stock. At this point I allowed several other shooters to test the same side by side and their opinions were of the same. Less muzzle rise and faster followup shots. Now keep in mind these were dual recoil guiderods which are heavier than the single spring Gen3 and earlier models. IMHO if you own a glock compact or Gen4 that uses a dual spring guide rod then they are worth the investment I have read that it makes no difference, and they're a waste of money, etc, but to me they're well worth it. |
