Hi
Beginner shooter, shooting a Glock. Trying to point shoot a 7 yards, seems when I bring the gun up I'm alway shooting low & seem to be forcing to barrel down, any tips for this???

Thanks Bill

As a new shooter your training regiments seems a little misguided, but does sounds extremely tacticool!

Now that I got that off my chest, I'd suggest you focus on the basics before getting into tactical training.

Work on safety and basic marksmanship first, then move on.  Trying advanced techniques without sound fundamentals.... is probably a waste of ammo.

Shooting low is generally a sign of anticipation, but if it only seems to be related to when you are "point and shoot"ing, then I'd guess your aim is simply off, although it's possible when trying to shoot fast you are just pushing down.... again anticipating recoil.

Dry firing will probably help you more than "point/shooting"!

Use your sights.  Instill good fundamentals.  Watch some videos, take a training course, etc.  Stance, grip, sight picture, trigger control.

Dry fire practice every single day.  Shoot as often as you can afford to.

Handguns are challenging to shoot well, but consequently it is also very rewarding when you start doing it well.

Edit:

Also if you are having trouble grouping well at 7 yards, shoot at 5 yards until you can group well and then move it out to 7 yards.  Shoot slow groups first, don't TRY to shoot fast.  Shoot well. And as you get better, you will naturally get faster.  Slow is smooth.  Smooth is fast.

Quick to your gun.  Sure of your grip.  Quick to your target.  Sure of your shot.

If you are shooting low at close range you are pushing the pistol forward in anticipation of firing

If your not going to use your sights at 7 then aim using the top of the rectangular slide.  The only time I have every really considered point shooting is if the aggressor is so close I can not raise my pistol for fear I will be disarmed or blocked from firing.

I wouldn't be surprised if half of those rounds didn't even hit the target.

This must be who trains Hollywood actors for gunfight scenes.

Every credible instructor I know of, and every professional competitive shooter I've talked to says to use the sights. When I teach/coach people, I tell them to use the sights.

Use the sights.

I agree with use the sights! However the key to good shooting with or without sights is trigger control. To demonstrate the importance of this I took costa's handgun class he taped our sights and with proper trigger control all students could hold minute of man to 25 yards and costa held the same at 50 ! With a glock trigger reset is the key. If you are fully releasing the trigger after each shot you are doing it wrong. Very advanced shooters can make a full release work but for most shooters trigger control from the reset point is the answer. I agree point shooting is worthless past arms length distance

The your doing it wrong....

You really don't need sights up close.  Most SD shots are 5 yards or less in distance.
But agree, you need the basics down 1st.

I got to the point that I was using the sights but looking through them.   You have to learn to walk before you run though...  you can't just pick up the gun and expect to be able to do it the first time.

How refined of a sight picture you need will vary with every shot though.    You don't need a front sight focus to hit the middle of a man sized target at 4 yards.    You do at 40.

I would be embarassed to post that video on youtube.

OP, "point shooting" comes from a kinesthetic awareness of sight alignment without actually looking at the sights.  Sort of like shooting the pistol so much it becomes an extension of your hand, and this usually takes tens if not hundreds of thousands of rounds fired while using your sights.  If you are a beginner, you cannot possibly have a kinesthetic awareness of sight alignment, and therefore cannot accurately point shoot.  You have the cart waaaaaaay in front of the horse.  Use your sights, take a few classes, and you will start to see things come together.

Don't know if this has been said already but index it with your thumb.  Your non-dominant thumb should run down the frame so basically try to point your thumb at your target (you should be pretty good at this instinctively).  If you are drawing from a holster, you can index it with your dominant index finger and move to the trigger but in a lot of "real world" scenarios a lot of people want to be on the trigger already by the time they reach full extension.

It takes practice.  Practice at home just pointing at random objects in the house (not your cat or dog or GF or wife haha).  I sit around and watch tv and will work on it.  Be safe.

You can see some of them obviously missing the target.

I don't think is goal is hitting the center of mass on every shot, though.
