| I just picked up a old glock 19 gen2. How do I know if it has had the upgrades done to it? Can I look at it and see? Scared to send it in because I read of glock keeping the gen 2 frame. And that's why I got it. If I could have the gen2 frame gen3 thumb rest and gen 4 texture I'd be happy happy happy |

If they swapped frames, wouldn't you the new frame have to go through a dealer like it was a new pistol? |

So, if I understand this correctly, if a 2nd Gen goes in for a recall / service, Glock is replacing the 2nd gen frame with the 3rd gen frame?
Not that I'd really like an upgrade frame to have a light rail on my 2nd gen Glock 19... thanks for the information / clarification on this. |
| I have read several times in the last few years that you may purchase a new frame for upgrade. So guys will send in second-generation guns pay $50 and have them updated to third-generation frames. I have never heard of Glock updating a perfectly serviceable second GEN frame without someone requesting |

I don't know if that is true. I sent in a 34 for warranty work and they sent the replacement to my house. Quoted:

Yes the new frame has to go to a dealer. I will look at the trigger bar. Thanks guys I don't know if that is true. I sent in a 34 for warranty work and they sent the replacement to my house. Winner. |

They sent you a new Frame for your 34, or they repaired and sent the same pistol back to you? I can't see how they can send you a new frame, which would have a new serial number. without it going through an FFL. |

I imagine they had to report something to the ATF about one gun being officially destroyed and replaced, but I don't know. |

The "upgrades" I am talking about are what glock calls pretty much a recall. One is something about the early slides having a protrusion that can cause an out of battery firing during a double feed. Another was something about the firing pin. The 6 Part Upgrade was issued in 1992. As long as your SN# is past AAA your probably ok. But you should look at the parts just incase. A Black trigger bar would indicate you need the upgrade. April 1, 1992 Glock, Inc. announces a production change of the firing pin safety system. This new firing pin safety system has been installed in all production Glock pistols since November, 1991. A voluntary upgrade is being offered to maintain the Glock tradition of ensuring that all of our pistoils are up to the latest standards in 21st century Goock technology. Most importantly, the components of the new firing pin safety system are not interchangable with the components of the old systam and Glock will always strive towards maintaining this feature of interchangability while working to ensure future interchangability. The upgraded firing pin safety system consists of: the firing pin, firing pin safety, the extractor, the spring loaded bearing and the trigger bar. The upgraded system is applicable only to Glock pistols with the following serial number ranges : Glock 17 - alpha prefixes AA - WF Glock 19 - alpha prefixes through WJ Glock 20 - alpha prefixes through WW Glock 21 - alpha prefixes through XL Glock 22 - alpha prefixes through YA Glock 23 - alpha prefixes through SK |
| I took a Gen 2 G22 in to the Glock facility in Smyrna back in fall of 2013. I had bought it used and wanted them to go ahead and replace the internals since I had no idea about their history or condition. They did so and the armorer returned it to me saying that the only original parts were the frame, slide, and trigger. I'm not sure if this was hyperbole or not, but I had no problem with it. |

There are allowances in Federal law for such things, but I am to lazy to google it for you. They can put the same s/n on the new frame or add a "-1" or some such to the s/n applied to the replacement frame, IIRC. |
