I've installed Trijicon HD Sights onto my Glock 17 and, while I love the sights, the rear sight is just crazy sharp and pointy. Even wearing it at the range in an OWB at 3 o'clock the meat of my right forearm is cut and gashed from accidentally sliding across it or bumping it occassionally.
Fortunately I wouldn't be carrying my Glock 17 and its a range gun only. However, I have a Glock 19 for carry that I was originally going to put the same sights on but now I'm concerned I'll just cut myself to ribbons if I try to carry it with those same sights. Thats too bad as I really like the sight picture. I have bad eyes and that big fluorescent dot on the front sight coupled with the insert is really easy for me to pick up. With stock glock front sights I have a hard time maintaining focus on the front sight and keeping it crisp, but with the Trijicon HD's my eye just seems to naturally pick up that front sight and keep it crisp. I'd like to use sights that do the same thing for my bad eyes. I only have experience with Glock stock sights and Trijicon HD's. Can you recommend to me any other sights that might have a sight picture similar to the Trijicon HD's that wouldn't be so razor sharp and more de-horned for carry? Thanks! |

A couple of things to consider, the front of the HDs are flat like that so that you can rack the slide off a belt, boot, holster, or any other hard point you can find when doing one handed manipulations, so it is sort of like that on purpose. If it really bothers you a lot I would recommend you get a kydex holster with a full body shield. Raven Concealment comes to mind for OWB. How do you carry the 19? (position and holster) |

(position and holster) I'll snap a picture tonight once I'm back home again. There is nothing obvious to see though like a blatant razor edge or torn metal or anything. Its also not the portion of the rear sight you'd rack on your belt or holster, its the serrated backside that faces you. Specifically, its the top right and left corners of the serrated side that faces you. So, for example, I was in a class at the range this weekend. It was in a Kydex OWB holster at 9 o'clock. I got cold so I threw my coat on while I was waiting for my turn to shoot. Those corners of the sight did a pretty good job tearing up the lining of my coat. Its pretty sharp. I see a pic of files in the post above, and if that is the answer...sure. I'm just afraid to file on it as I simply don't know what I'm doing and don't know anything about how that may or may not change or ruin the sights. I don't want to pull all the paint or finish or whatever they are covered in off. And I don't want to wreck them or change the POA/POI. If filing is the answer, then if someone could walk me through properly doing it without wrecking anything or screwing up my sights, and what products or stuff I'd need to fix the finish, I'd give it a shot. |

I have carried mine IWB with no undershirt, with an undershirt, OWB under a jacket, etc. and I've never been cut/scraped or torn up any of my clothing either while moving around or drawing/reholstering. Something isn't right here. |
