How rare and sought after are the rtf2's with fish gills, specifically the G23?  I've only seen two in my life.

They're fairly uncommon but can be had for a premium and do pop up on GB.

ETA: A lot of LE agencies have them as well, so they may pop up as trade ins.

Seen plenty, never seen demand for them, but the right buyer at the right time might be willing to pay a premium for one. Free market and all that.

i lucked out and happened to come across a rtf2 G17 as my first handgun purchase, the local store had it on display... i love it and would love to get a G19 rtf2, they come up on gun broker every now and then but are hard to get in CA... i don't think they make the rtf anymore

A good friend of mine bought a fish-gill 23 from me a few months ago.

I found him a 17L also.

I have a feeling that before he's done collecting, he'll have most everything that isn't GAP.

I passed on one last summer and I am kicking myself for it.

I'm just waiting for a 17 to show up available when I have the cash.

Not insanely rare, but the rarest (or 2nd rarest) Glock ever is the G23C RTF2.   The only ones I ever had was the G21SF RFT2 and several G22's, but the G22 was the most widely produced RTF2 model.

A friend of mine has a G22 RTF2-FG. He said he got it on clearance at Academy one day and got a good deal on it.  He's not really a gun guy so I had to explain to him what he actually had and that it's not exactly rare or collectible, but certainly not something you see every day.

I'm looking for a G19 RTF2 with the gills as well. And they are very hard to get in California, namely because they are not on the "Safe Handgun Roster". So the only options to us for acquiring one in the state would be PPT or SSE, if you can find one.

And no, the RTF2 style is not manufactured any longer.

@The OP - There was a gentleman here on ARFCOM that was looking for a G23 RTF2, found one, and then sold it pretty quickly for a decent price. If you're looking to buy one, try the EE in the Want to Buy or Want to Trade sections. If you're looking to sell one, try those same sections and the Handguns section, and if your deal is good you shouldn't have any issues finding a buyer.

I'll bet that I know why.

I had a Model 22 with the RTF2 and gills.  The texturing, as you know, is quite aggressive, like skateboard tape.  It felt very secure in the hand, but that same aggressiveness made IWB carry impractical (my skin wore to an oozing patch after only an afternoon of carry) and could be rough on covering garments and undershirts.
The gills were oriented backward, apparently for looks.  Instead of helping to lock the meaty part of your hand into the slide for manipulation, it was actually somewhat slippery and a step backward from the vertical grooves.

I was more than happy to replace it with a Gen4 (although a RTF2/gill-less 3rd Gen would have been fine too).

From a collecting standpoint, I can understand your sentiment, I suppose, but not from a shooting standpoint.

I have two G17 RTF2s with fish gills.  My dad has a19 RTF2 with fish gills.  I am going to get some gen 4s as the texture is way to rough for IWB carry.

see i think the texture on the gen4 is too rough, my only 2 glocks a 22 and 19 are gen4 but im thinking of getting them stippled mybe in a smoother texture like the gen 3 rtf2.

We have a department full of worn out long sleeve shirts from rubbing the grips on the RTF2 G22s.   Several of the admin guys swapped them for the G23s because of the worn out long sleeve shirts and annoyance with their arms in short sleeves.

I really do like shooting it but I wouldn't even attempt to carry it off duty.

If I recall correctly, he wanted the G19 and G23 so he could have the pair, but then decided he wanted to get out of .40, so that was why he was selling it.
