Well I lucked out. Worked out a straight local trade for a Gen3 G17. It was in slightly nicer condition than my Trade piece and came with brand new TruGlo night sights. Perfect. Just tossed my Streamlight on for fun.

I only had $250 in my Gun I traded, so I ended up with a very low round county near new condition Glock 17 with night sights for half of what it was worth.

So what are the "must do" mods for these? I plan on it being a range shooter, and pistol training gun.

dont mod it, you've got a great weapon there. shoot it and enjoy.
what'd you trade for it?

Nothing, just shoot it.  I like a light though.

Awesome! Great gun to shoot IDPA with. Check out the 3.5 lbs disconnectors if the trigger seems like a difficult transition. I like the Ghost brand. Be careful some are drop ins and others are not.

I actually traded a G23 for it. But I only owned the G23 for a few days. My buddy was needing some cash. And his wife wasn't stoked about him having a gun, so he said he'd sell it to me for 250. I wasn't interested in owning a .40, so I told him I'd do it just to trade it for what I wanted. I was in the market for a g17 anyways, so it worked out well.

now you can mod it by seeing if you can trade it for an M&P .....

Mods to consider:

1) Extended slide stop (either Vickers or G34)
2) 3.5 pound connector for a better trigger pull
3) Extended mag release
4) Vickers magazine baseplates or +2 Glock factory extensions

Only thing that G17 needs is a pile of magazines and ammo.  A 3.5 lb connector doesn't hurt, but it isn't "required" by any means.

This guy speaks the truth.
Buy a mag a month, every month.

Or bite the bullet and buy enough to get free shipping when an online vendor has a deal.

Local prices on Glock mags are still set as if a ban was imminent.  So I'm shopping online.  When I can find a place with $25 mags and free shipping above $100 or $150, I'll stock up.

If you like the sights, then maybe a 3.5lb trigger bar...... that's it, leave it alone.... buy ammo and range time..... then repeat!

If you really only had $250 in your trade, you did GOOD!

I did!

I was very happy with end result. Just need to get a few more mags and some range time now I guess!

Also, what's a good holster for doing tactical courses or 3gun?

Ammo.

17rd GLOCK mags.

33rd GLOCK mags.

Range time to get acquainted with your new 17.

Repeat.

Enjoy.

Comptac
Bladetech

I just picked up a gen4 G17 myself a few days ago.  I ordered Trijicon HD's and a streamlight tlr1hl for it.  The 3.5lb connector sounds like a worthwhile investment as well.  I cant stand the stock sights so I took advantage of SKD's veterans day sale and picked up the Triji's.

Don't modify the gun.  It is already perfect.  Get mags and ammo.

For a carry holster order a Milt a sparks Summer Special II from Brownells.  Awesome holster and no waiting.

For a range holster for matches, order a Comp-tac paddle.

Whatever you CCW it with , I'm partial to a Raven Phantom.

I have. Kahr CW9 for CCW, and I'm a smaller guy at 160lbs, so I'd have a hard time concealing this thing in regular clothes. I'll never CCW the G17, so I just want a nice holster for range and training use.
