its a tv show but also remember what works for one person may not work for another.

I was looking at it as more a outdoor hiking hunting option . if fo some reason i messed up my left hand i could still rack the slide if needed

i shattered my left trigger finger and sometimes it gets sore and stiff if i use it much

As long as you replace the crappy plastic factory sights, you can use the sights to rack the gun one-handed off of your belt, shoe, etc.  You can even rack it off the leg of your jeans or pinch the slide between your knees and do it that way.
No need for gimmicky slide racker.

I've seen those on uspsa guns, but never on anything that was meant to be carried concealed. Usually mounted to the side of the slide, never seen one mounted on the back.

Mako makes these.

We tried one for a handicapped officer. They work okay. But we were concerned about the amount of stress put on the rear of the slide, and the uneven force applied to the frame rails.

We dumped the idea. In addition to the first set of concerns, the thing sticks out and stabs you in the side if you try to carry the gun in a holster close to your body.

It is actually just as easy to rack the slide using the sights on a fixed object.

Works fine, easy to put in.  I bought one before the ex-fiancee learned the proper racking techinque - not from me, I didn't know how wemin rack a slide either.

Nice for a range gun, maybe for open carry on a leg holster, necessary for some of the instant pistol to carbine kits, otherwise kinda useless.

This is what you are looking for. You can also find them on Amazon and other sites.

I've loooked into one for my G34 for the wife to use as she has had issues racking the slide. Since it is a range only gun I wasn't concerned about the tab sticking out. I've been able to get her to rack the slide by holding the gun to her hip while it is pointed down range, she then grips the slide with her off hand and pivots her upper body to the rear of the slide (sorry if I am describing this poorly). So I have opted out of getting one for now.

I've had the same concerns about stress on the slide however you see the guys run these on high end competition guns. Granted those guys may end up replacing parts faster. Most of those guys are running one of these due to an optic mount that prevents a traditional grip on the slide. All you have to do to install is replace the rear slide cover so if you don't like it you can always pop it out and re-install your factory cover or a super cool skull to show everyone you are a high speed death machine

You want to try it, why?

Do you have problems racking the slide, seems like nothing more than something that will get in your way (carry)!  I don't see this device as an improvement, won't make you shoot better.... that's for sure.

http://www.themakogroup.com/product_p/fch.htm  This is the part you are asking about OP. I have one installed on a 17L which has been SBR'd and also uses their telestock.. Fantastic set up. Don't know where all the WHY questions come from. It really don't matter why. If you want to do it go for it. It's a great piece and when you shoulder the stock or on the way up it makes it extremely easy and fast to rack the slide with your weak hand. The part is reversible for left or right handers. I can understand that some wouldn't have a NEED for such a part, but believe me, it works great in the set up I have.

While it may work on an SBR glock, and even offer some value or ease of use..... I doubt the average person will see any benefit, and I surely would not want to have that installed on a carry firearm.

Why not ask why, it helps answer the question posed, as some people have a completely different level of knowledge and experience.

I've only ever seen them on match guns that had red dots on them.

I've used the plastic sights to pry the slide open before, but YMMV.
