Saw a Gen 3 17 frame for sale the other day for what looked like a decent price. Would making it a dedicated .22 be worth the time and effort? If so what conversion kit would you recommend and why?

Why no kit for a G30?

AAC. Mine rides on a G21SF.

I use an AA kit with my full size frames. If you practice a lit it is definitely worth it. I use it to practice 3gun drills on steel plates where it is not unusual to run a set of 6-8 plates 50+ times in quick succession. Saving 20 cents a round to build that muscle memory has saved me thousands of dollars while still practicing with live ammo. When clean my kit is very reliable with the right ammo. Generally 36gr hollowpoints such as Federal or Remington bulk packs work best. I don't have much experience with the TacSol conversion, but I would buy one without hesitation also.

My Advantage Arms kit has been great, except it works best with Remington Golden Bullets, which I haven't been able to find in quantity.

That's what they recommend but have you found it to be true?

Mine has never seen that brand and runs everything else just fine.

That's what have works the best of what I tried.  I refuse to pay $10/100 for Minimags when I load 9mm for the same price

I've got a dedicated AA .22 conversion kit on a G19/23 frame. It is SOOOOO worth it for all the reasons mentioned above. I've only ever tried the Federal (Wally World) bulk pack (FTF/FTE about once every magazine) and CCI Mini Mags (not one stoppage to date in several thousand rounds). It runs Mini Mags so well that I hesitate to even try anything else.

I, too, have an Advantage Arms kit on a G19 frame. Mine is set up with an AA threaded barrel, for use with my YHM Mite. Before I got the threaded barrel, it had a tendency to be finicky with ammo. Now, though, it runs quite well.

Kept reasonably clean and a little wet during break in, most AA kits will run on just about any decent quality, full powered ammo after about 500, or so, rounds. Once everything settles into place and the springs get worked in, they will just run and run and run. .22LR being what is, nothing will ever be 100%, but all of mine run like a scalded dog using a little patience and the break in procedure I described. I am now on my 7th AA kit various Glock platforms and they have all behaved the same. Running them with a threaded barrel and a can does help get the break in over with much sooner.
