I'm interested in buying a sight pusher to change out all of my sights myself. Is the Glock sight tool the best choice? I'm going from stock to Trijicon HD's

I've got a couple, and they work excellent on traditional sights.... not so well with anything that is off set, like Trijicon HD's, for those and other off set models..... brass punch, hammer..... and vise!

MGW (pictured above) makes a pusher with angled sides to do sights like the HD's, used one to install them on my 26.  Made the job stupid easy.

Where can I buy it? All I'm seeing is the one for factory sights? thanks.

Will the MGW pusher work on all glocks or are there different models for the 21 and 30 type glocks versus the small frame glocks like the 17 and 19?

I picked up the MGW glock angled sight pusher from Midway.

Judging by reviews I've read it looks to work on all glock models, definitely 21s as people commented about using it for that particular model.

I also read that it comes in two models, one for angles sights, one for straight.

This is true. They only work on the rear sights, of course, because the front sight design on Glocks is staked. You need to get one of the Glock front sight tools which is essentially a 3/16 hex head socket. I've seen those go for $30-$40.

I'm guessing the angled sight model is for Meprolights and the straight side model is for Trijicons, Heinie sights, and similar designs.

The straight sided mgw tool will do straight and angled sights

Glock recommends the MGW sight tool over their own.... True story.

I also use the MGW.

I've needed my universal sight pusher for a lot of guns out there, but never for the Glock rear sight. Very easy to take off and put on with a tiny hammer and delrin tipped punch. Adjustment is as easy while holding the slide in a padded vise.

Are you speaking from personal experience or second-hand knowledge?

Reason I ask is because I figured I would just buy the straight sided pusher and make it work to remove the factory sights (which are somewhat angled) before installing Heinies.

The straight side pusher works fine for that specific application.  Just did it myself

The straight sided MGW tool will work on both straight and angled sights, but the angled MGW tool won't work on straight sided sights (at least the ones I've tried).  I got the angled MGW tool a long time ago before I knew this.  It works well, I just use a punch and hammer when installing straight sided sights.  The straight sided MGW tool might leave a mark on angled sights when installing them so you might want to put a few layers of tape or something on the side of the sight.

Can someone who has used the straight MGW to install Trijicon HD's please link to the model you are referencing? The only one I'm seeing on Midway says it's for angled sights. It looks like it would work for the HD's but I'd rather not spend $100 to find out it doesn't work.

Thanks.

I am speaking from first hand experience.  When you use it to move sloped sights, it could leave a small mark on the sight if you don't put something in between where the sight pusher contacts the sights.  The model I have is MGW309S and I have used it for straight and slope sided sights.
Between my buddies and I, I have probably used it at least a half dozen times so far.  MGW makes a quality tool, but they aren't cheap. I have seen the MGW tool as cheap as about $90 but it seems like the MGW sight pushers are always in demand and kind of hard to find at times.
Brownells has them in stock Glock Straight Sided Sight Pusher

Don't forget to get a front sight tool too.  You can get them for as little as about $6 on up to around $40.
I like this front site tool Lone Wolf Front Sight Tool  because it has armorers tools with it too.

Awesome front sight tool

I added some paper towel to the socket of mine to take up the slack so the retaining bolt wouldn't "get lost" in there.  Worked great on my G34.

Is there anything wrong with just knocking the rear sight in with a nylon punch? Spending $90 on a rear sight pusher I plan to use only once or twice seems....wasteful.

Nope nothing wrong with a nylon punch at all. Have at it.

I have the MGW, and It works well on my 9mm/40 and 45 width slides.

Between mine and my friends, I've used it to instal 10 sets. It is a quality made tool, that will last for years.

Worth the price IMO.

I use the old, original style Glock factory tools. I bought them for $20 apiece (one for each frame size) from a gunshop that went out of business.

Glock no longer sells that style, funny story- Glock didn't actually ever make those particular tools. A guy that lived next to the factory in Smyrna was a machinist hobbyist and he made them for them. He died. Now they make a shitty tool that their armorer instructors refuse to use and recommend you don't either!

I use the straight MGW on straight or angled sights.  Works great.  I put a piece of bike tire tube between the pusher and the angled sights to keep it from leaving a mark on the sight.

If you do decide to use the MGW try putting a small peice of lens cloth between the sight and the tool where it pushes. Helps from marring the sight. Helped me at least. The money you spend on the MGW is worth it. I have used mine numerous times.

I use the MGW sight tool as well. It works very we'll, makes installing the rear sight a breeze and (compared to others) doesn't cost a bunch.

Not at all. The rear sight on a Glock is ridiculously easy to remove and adjust with a hammer and delrin tipped punch.
