| So I remember hearing about troubles with the Gen4. Have these issues been resolved or are they still prevalent? Other than the backstraps are there any benefits to the Gen4 over Gen3? I'm looking at getting a G34, but I'm not sure which generation to go for |

We (PD) bought 49 Gen4s - mix of mostly G17s but some G19s.
After transition training 30 officers and around 10k rounds not one single malfunction. I will admit I am a Glock fanboy, but I was very impressed with the new Gen4. Has worked out great. I would say the Gen 4 is GTG from my limited experience. |

My personal gen fours have been good. My 34 had to have a new ejector but I haven't had any brass to face since I put that in there. The 19 has bee. Good to go since I bought it in February.
I honestly think if you're going to have problems it would be more likely in a new gen three. |

Other than the backstraps are there any benefits to the Gen4 over Gen3? Grip can be smaller than (no backstrap), the same as (medium), or larger (large) than a Gen 3 depending on back strap. Also, the new ones have beavertail backstraps. The grip texture is much more aggressive. The mag catch is larger. The dual recoil spring system is said to reduce recoil (though I can't tell the difference in 9mm...I hear it's more pronounced in the 40s). Both of my gen 4s (19 and 34) have been perfect. A friend also has 2 that have been perfect. Another friend has a 19 that started off throwing brass in his face, but after 1000 rounds or so seems to have straightened itself out. |
| I didn't say the Gen 3 wasn't a fine tool. It served me well for many years. I simply meant that, in my opinion, the Gen 4 improvements rendered the Gen 3 obsolete for me as it won't do anything better than the Gen 4. My two biggest complaints about the Gen 3 were the grip texture and mag release. The Gen 4 took care of both of those issues. |

I like my gen4 g34 so far. The trigger is a little heavier than my other glocks that all have the 3.5 connector ( gen2 and 3's.) The backstraps are a very nice addition but the texture makes little difference to me as I use grip tape anyway.
Although ejection is a little weaker than my other glocks I have around 800 rounds malfunction free so far. My gen3 G17 has 10,000K through it with not s single malfunction. If this new one can get even close to that standard I'll be very happy with this handgun. |

The extractor is still the same in both guns. Do you mean the ejector? http://i40.tinypic.com/kbye1d.jpg Quoted:

Since one of the differences between gen 3 and 4 is the extractor, how exactly did they change it anyway? The extractor is still the same in both guns. Do you mean the ejector? http://i40.tinypic.com/kbye1d.jpg Heh heh..yeah, that. Whoops. |

I just took my new G-17 Gen 4 to the range. Hate to say it but it is perfection. Perfect ejection, very accurate, totally reliable and I love it. This was the first time to the range. Fired Fiocchi 115 gn ball and Federal 147 gn hollow point. All good. I love mine. I can't believe I waited so long to get one. Way better in my hand than the 19. |

Both of my Gen4 Glock pistols work as advertised: Perfection!
The adjustable backstraps/bigger mag release/aggressive grip texture....all improvements, IMO. My Gen4 G30 even came with Beavertail backstraps! Who knew? http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t497/spec4towle/004_zps7512d713.jpg |

Quoted: i have seen where the new bump on the trigger bar is what is causing a heavier trigger has that been removed or is still there? that bump is to align the top of the trigger bar over the center of the firing pin safety plunger. it adds .5 lb to the pull. the newest connector cancels that out |
| From what I understand the newer Gen 4 is GTG. I bought a Gen 4 17 when they first hit the market and after repeated trips to the gun smith it only likes "duty" rounds. No cheap range ammo will run in it but it has been 100% reliable with Gold Dots, Hydra Shock, and NATO pressure rounds. After a year of messing with it I went back to the earlier generations but if I was in the market for a new Glock I wouldn't worry about the new Gen 4's and would probably pick one up. |

For me, the gen. 4's fit my hand better because of the back-straps/beavertail. My G17G4 behaves as though it wants me to shoot faster. Kind of like a Porsche 911 turbo that pulls harder and harder the more you mash the accelerator. The harder you run it the more impressed I am of how it manages it. In the first 200 rounds I have put through my G17G4 (date 6/2013) I have had zero issues. Not many rounds but a good sign for the future. |

How about G20 gen3 vs gen4? Is the thinner polymer a concern for the 10mm? I don't know what "thinner polymer" you're talking about, but all of the parts that are subjected to any major forces (barrel and slide) are steel. I'm not aware of any thinner polymer on the Gen 4 though. |
| I purchased a Glock 19 back in early June. It was manufactured in May of this year and has the new 043 RCS and 30274 ejector. Using 115 gr 9mm Blazer Brass ammo and shooting 100 rounds of it I experienced erratic ejection. My second range trip I shot 115 WWB and experienced no erratic ejection until I canted the pistol 20 degree to the left (I'm right handed). I have since purchased a new Apex extractor and haven't had a chance to use it, but I'm hoping that it causes my brass to have less rearward through to it. To me brass shouldn't eject over your shoulder it should be more to the 3:30 position. |
