I was thinking about picking up a gen 4 G19 in the next few days. I read that people are having problems with brass to the face, I was wondering if this issue has been fixed?

Some on the internet say yes and others say to stay clear of the Gen 4, but I have heard the new production Gen 3's are having the same problem.

The one I was looking at had a test fire date from last month (6-12-2013 or so).

Really want a 19, passed on one a few weeks ago for a 23.

Thanks

I got a blue label 19 gen 4 about a year ago, and that gun has performed flawlessly for a good 500+ roundsw.  I've been shooting/playing with glocks since the late 80's, and the improvements to the gen 4 are pretty impressive to me.  The gun is much lighter in weight than my Sig P229, yet recoil feels like it's reduced by 25-30%, which has to be the new dual recoil spring.  The other thing I like about the gen 4 are the interchangeable/removable backstraps, and slightly more aggressive grip texture.

i got my Gen 4 Glock 19 a few weeks ago. Test fire date 6/19/13.

I've put a little over a thousand rounds through it and it's performed flawlessly. No brass to the face and no malfunctions what-so-ever.
I've used in it local IDPA matches and Steel Challenge and I actually posted faster times with the 19 than my glock 34 gen 4.

If you can find a Glock 19 Gen 4, I say grab it now!

Here's a video of me running the 19 against my 34 in last weeks steel challenge (my first steel challenge match). I feel the 19 is easier to transition from target to target faster.
Ended up taking 3rd overall with the 19 and 6th overall with the 34.

I got one back in February, left the factory about five days before I had it in my hand.

Zero brass to face at this point, around 500rds down the pipe.  It's my CCW.

I recently bought a Gen 4 19 with a test fire date of May 2013. I have had BTF issues with mine that I think are getting sorted out. The ammo I had on hand initially for testing was lighter range ammo. This ammo resulted in a lot of BTF (maybe 25%) and crappy ejection.

I loaded some hotter ammo and have shot some of that with better results. This weekend I plan to shoot more extensively with the hotter loads and see how it does.

Since I reload it's not a big deal to load a hotter round for the G19. But, this is the first handgun I've had to do that for. If you don't reload then finding hotter ammo might be a problem with the current ammo situation.

I've read that after 500 rounds or so, and the springs etc. get broken in, they will handle the light range ammo better. We shall see.

It seems most of the new production guns are not having the BTF problem. I guess I just got lucky.

I really do like everything about the 19 except for the erratic ejection and BTF. If more shooting with the hotter loads doesn't fix it I will send it to Glock and let them check it out. Hopefully that won't be necessary.

My wife and I both bought new G19 Gen 4's this year and both have had about 3000 rounds through them so far. No problems out of either and we've run the whole gamut of ammo through them...

I bought a Gen4 Glock 19 a few months ago.  BTF with a variety of ammo.  I didn't even know that BTF was a thing until I experienced it and read about it online.  It's my first Glock and I assumed it would "just work".  Well, it works but also throws hot brass right in my face often enough to be really annoying.

I think you answered your own question.  Just like with AR's, if a gun will cycle light ammo, then it's probably going to batter the shit out of itself with good ammo.  This isn't any magical voodoo....just simple physics.  Either the ammo is going to be powerful enough to cycle the slide, or it's not.  And you're right, you need to get some rounds downrange...should help the spring get broken in.

If you want to run light loads that still won't cycle after the gun is broken in (for training or whatever), then I would look into finding a reduced power spring that you can swap out when you get to the range.

Probably going to trade a HK P30L to pick one up.

The gun cycled fine with the lighter range ammo. It just ejected erratically and displayed the BTF syndrome.

This is my first Glock and the first handgun I've owned that is so particular about ammo. My XDs, M&Ps, and even 1911s will eat anything. The ejection distance may vary with lite/hot loads , but none of them throw the brass at your face.

I'm not a fanboy of any particular brand. Just stating the facts from my personal experience.

I had nightmarish BTF issues with my Gen 3 Glock 17, to the point where they eventually had to replace the entire gun. Picking up my Gen 4 19 from my FFL tonight and hoping for better luck with this one. Based on the research I did online, both during my 17 troubles and in advance of my 19 purchase, it looks like the 17 has WAY more ejection issues and that the Gen 3 19 has more ejection problems than the Gen 4 19. That's just been my observation.

Good luck to us both?

I just picked up an American-made Gen 3 19 last month but but still haven't shot it yet. Test fire date on it was January of this year. I need to test it out and see if it does this. I hope not.

DO IT! My Gen 4 is has a test fire date from Feb. of this year - not a single instance of BTF or erratic ejection. Love the Gen 4's.

I'm currently trying to trade my XD40 Subcompact towards a Gen 4 Glock 19.  Best stock trigger I have ever laid my hands on!  I was having a hard time with the long reset with my XD trigger and didn't want to spend another $200 to fix it when I could just get a Glock!

most of he btf issues are rare now. even if someone is experiencing them, most go away after 500 rounds or so.

my gun had the issues at first. got the new stuff put in by glock. had occasional issues, but shot the piss out of it. 1k rounds later, no issues.

Just a follow up... got my Gen 4 G19 and put 100 rds through it on Saturday. One BTF from intentional limp-wristing, but zero ejection issues or FTFs... nothing but 3-4:00 strong ejections with Federal 115, PMC Bronze and S&B.

Gun was test fired less than a month ago. No aftermarket mods, 3in controlled fire groups at 10-15 yards.

Bought a US made Gen 4 back in December. Put XS big dots on it and it has over 400 rounds through it. No issues. The only thing I don't like is the trigger. It's a little more crisp than I like on a Glock. I like my 1911 triggers crisp and my Glock triggers mushy.

I noticed that between my G23 and G19 last night while dry firing them. I thought the trigger on the G23 was much better and its because it is mushier than  G19, the 19 has a very crisp trigger.

Both the 23 and 19 where test fired roughly a month ago.

Dipped on the left. Non-dipped on the right.

What does the dip do for the extractor ?
7/24/2013 9:29:34 AM EDT

I have yet to year of an explanation for the dip in the new extractor. Likely some feature of the molding process. It seems that the BTF issues came to a head about the time the dip extractors were introduced, around the "M" prefix in the serial numbers. I believe the earlier issues with BTF and jamming were due to a combination of problems, including wrong recoil springs (RSA) and extractor, ejector problems. Little by little, they are being sorted out by Glock.

I put another 110 rounds through mine tonight. Out of the 90 hot reloads 1 hit me on top of the head, and 1 hit me in the chest. The others ejected nicely about 3-5 feet at around 4 o'clock. I shot 20 rounds of Blazer Brass and that ejected all over the place. Some hit me in the face, some in the chest, and some even ejected to the left lol. Mine definitely hates low powered range ammo.

I got to take my new 19 to the range, I had 5 BTF and about 50 percent of the time the slide would not lock back after the last round. Fired around 400 rounds.

Mine had 200 more rounds through it this weekend shooting a GSSF match...  I'll estimate 800 total at this point.

And I had a 2.99 second run clearing the six plates with it

Just need to get the BTF issue taken care of and the lack of slide lock back after the last round.

I bought a Gen 4 G23 a year ago.   No issues with it and love it.  Yesterday I just picked up a brand new Gen 4 G17 and I am sure I will be happy with that.

I traded some firearms to get the G17.  I was considering the P30 and a new Colt lightweight 1911.  Very tempting on the Colt.  But since I already have a new Colt stainless Series 70 and a Kimber....

And I love Glocks.  I had a P30 once and I cannot honestly see how it is any better than a Glock.  Glock has much more aftermarket support and I shoot it well.

I already have an HK Tactical 45 ACP, so I have one of the best examples of an HK anyway.

Love the Glock.
