I currently have a G19 as a backup weapon for primary long gun used for home defense.

Give me a recommendation for a light to be mounted on my Gen 3 G19.

I'm using a Crimson Trace Rail Master on my bedside pistol, a Sig Pro SP2022. Very small, very bright, easy to click on with one finger, and very reasonably priced, if you shop around a bit.  Linky

A pic on my SP2022:

Thanks for the recommendation.

I use a Crimson Trace Lightguard because I feel they have the best activation of any light, easy to activate with no extra manipulation required is handy in a defensive situation imo.

I am also not a fan of super bright lights inside as they have the tendency to blind me as well if I just woke in the dead of night, so I like to keep it below 150 lumens for that sort of thing.
Though, this may also depend on how large your home is, hallway length, room size, etc.

Normal X300, or a TLR-1 if your looking to save some cash. Both are great lights and are the usual suspects when anyone is looking for a good pistol mounted light. Makes them super easy to find holsters for as well.

You dont want 500 lumens inside the house.

Streamlight TLR-3

Bright as heck, less than $75 most places, momentary and all-on modes depending on which way you rock the switch. It's also very light weight and is short, it doesn't hang way off the front of the gun like the bigger Streamlight models and other brands I've seen.

How does yours fit? I've heard issues of them not fitting to G19s very well not sure if it was gen related or not.

TLR-1 best light for the price. Shop aound and you can get them for at/sometimes under 100 bucks. I also use one on my patrol rifles. These two still going strong after 5 years of service.

I personally don't see the  light hanging off the front of the gun being a huge issue. TLR 1 is a prove design, affordable and mounts up rock solid. It is also the perfect amount of light for building searches/home defense.

The TLR3 is smaller than the TLR1, right? wouldn't that be better for a G19 as the TLR1 sticks out beyond the front of the barrel?

I had a TLR-1s on my Gen 3 Glock 19 for a while. Never had a problem with it sticking out. Just got a little dirty if you shot a lot of rounds with it on. The light was awesome.

I think the TLR-1 looks better on the G19 than the full size Glocks. Also if you want to run a holster with the TRL-1, you wont have a problem finding one.

I have a TLR-1s on my AR, 870, and M&P40. It's a great light, plenty bright, well made, and fairly inexpensive.

Mine rides on a G22, but I put it on my friends G19 and it fit fine, his is Gen-4. My G22 is Gen 4.

Ultimately, any light you strap to a G19 will hang off the end some, but my TLR3 is flush with the end of the G22 - look at how much that TLR-1 hangs off a full sized G22...that would be too much for a G19 for me.

Look at this pic.

The bracket doesnt even fit all the way on the rail. IMHO, there is diminishing return to putting a light that big on a gun that small. At what point are you justified in stepping up to a full sized gun? If you are increasing the overall length of the weapon by over an inch with all that light hanging off, you  might as well go get a G34 or G17. The grip will be the same diameter, right? Longer sight radius and same overall length (if you count the light).

Here's a G22 with the TLR3.

Here's a G17 (same size as the 22) with a TLR1

Not saying one is better than the other, your mileage may vary - consider everything before you pull the trigger. Overall length of the gun + light may justify a bigger, easier to shoot gun. Just food for thought.

I want 500 lumens hell I'll take 1000 lumens as long as the beam patter is correct you won't blind yourself off walls.

OP I suggest you get the Streamlight tlr-1s 300 lumens which is under 120 bucks.

I personally think that is crazy. I have one of the new 320 lumen Surefire G2X lights on one of my rifles and used it inside and it definitely killed my ability to see for a short period of time.
I feel that 150 lumens and under is best for home defense, plenty bright for target identification and won't affect your vision at all.

My TLR's are the 300 lumen model and I don't notice any more back splash than the 120 lumen ones. The bright center seems larger but that's about all. From the other side though the difference is noticeable

Having the light stick out past the muzzle is actually an advantage.  If you ever have to shoot with the gun pressed into a bad guy it will help prevent the slide of your pistol being pushed out of battery.

Do any of you saying it's "too bright" have any lowlight experience?  The Fury, x300U, etc. are not really any 'brighter' than the G2, 6P, m600, x300, etc.  Beam throw might be a little farther but the hot spot is not really brighter.  The 'wash' or corona is brighter and is wider, which IMO is a real advantage.  Hold your rifle or pistol at low ready and see how well your 200 lumen light illuminates a room.  Can you ID your target without pointing the gun/light at it?

On topic, another vote for the x300 or x300U

I bought the Glock flashlight for my G22.  It's light and the controls are easy to use, it uses two CR123 batteries.

X300U . No such thing as a gun with too many ammo or too much light.  Folks should use it in the dark before speaking up.
