Can I get some pictures and information on cutting a glock grip down? I am thinking on a 19 cut down to a 26. Is it something I can do on my own, or drop it with someone to do it? Maybe do a mild stipple on it too, but I dont know. I have seen pictures, but what do the owners of these guns think of them, good or never do it again?
I just want to know if its a good idea before I cut it or if I am going to regret it afterwards? |
| If you want the grip size of a 26, get a 26. Whats gonna happen after you cut it and realize its gay? There will be no resale after you cut it, and probably after you stipple it. Pretty much anything you permanently do means you are now stuck with it. But on the sunny side, all of the work: stipple, mag cutouts, relieve mag safety, undercut trigger guard is all easy. |

| You will regret it. Most people that have a 26, as a +2 floorplate on their mags because they hate having their pinky finger hanging off the grip. By the time you do that, you are back to a Glock 19 length grip. Don't do it, you are only saving less than an inch. |

That slide was done in a custom mix of Burnt Bronze and Black Cerakote. The Burnt Bronze on its own was a little light for my taste, so a little black was added to darken it up. It looks pretty light in that picture, but it actually is about the same color shade as the FDE Glock frames.
I have done quite a few of the G17 chops to G19 dimensions as well. It is by far more popular than the 19 to 26 size. Here is an OD 17 cut down to 19 specs, and a Gen 4 G22 cut down to a 23. The Gen 4 customer wanted a copy of Travis Haley's cut down 17, but he wanted a different texture. TXPO OD 17 cut down.

I need a G17 now. I like the G22 there with the finger groove still there and the flush mag base plate too, Just clean. How much does a frame chop run with the stipple? It looks really good, you do good work!! |

As others have already said or implied, if you decide to do it, the resale value of your pistol will likely tank.
Having said that, if you're determined to have the extra concealability (the difficulty in concealment mainly lies in grip length, especially if you carry appendix IWB) while keeping the longer sight radius for accuracy and extra slide mass for recoil absorption, then feel free to do it. Rob Pincus just took delivery of a Glock 23 that was chopped down to subcompact grip length and then converted to 9mm for these very reasons. I'm toying with the idea of doing this myself (I don't carry appendix IWB as my primary, but the extra length of a G19/23 grip is uncomfortable for me in the car), but I haven't made a final decision yet... |

Well, I can tell you I'm seriously thinking of cutting a G17 to fit G19 mags. The ONLY reason is because I live in NJ and I can't have 17rnd mags, but can have 15rnd mags. I see it as a G19 that shoots smoother, has less recoil, has less muzzle flip and faster 2nd shot recovery. I could see this being a benefit to a G22 cut to fit G23 mags as recoil would be more manageable and would fit certain hands (mine) better. |

If you are taking a G22 and cutting the grip to G23 specs..its still gonna recoil just like a G22..so slide mass is irrelevant? Just my observation..If you want less recoil..shoot a smaller caliber. As far as concealability..I can see the reasoning..that makes sense.
If someone can sell me on the physics..Im good. But Ive been shooting for 30 years...and teaching for 15. Im not sold on the slide mass and recoil..just my observation. Good looking guns though.. |

G22 with a G23 grip will have less recoil than a G23 with a G23 grip. |

It turned out decent. I was planning on trying to put my frame plug back in. I did do a half moon cut into the base of it. I just didn't want to keep going deeper. It took me around an hour. I could still do some beveling towards the inside of the magwell and do some touch up,. Overall it's pretty nice. Send me a private message and I'll send you a shot. I've never posted on here in all these years a photo. Maybe I will tomorrow?

I found a G17 in the EE to do it, but with shipping and the transfer I was pushing close to the price of a new/lightly used Glock in my area. I stumbled across a great deal on a G19C that I snagged up. I dont think I will be cutting it, but I am on the hunt for a 17 that I can cut down to 19 spec.
I am really liking that 22 on pg 1, its just awesome. |
