As an on duty back up to my Glock 22 I am probably going to pick up a 27, with all my other gear I am leaning towards an ankle holster of some type but I have never worn an ankle holster or even aware if the Glock 27 is too big/heavy to carry this way reliably. Have any of you guys carried this way before and recommend any holsters that in case I had to chase someone down would't fall off in the street.
27 is my back up (EDC) to my 23. I've carried this 27, and previously a 26, on my ankle for years. The Alessi ankle holster is top of the line, but fairly expensive. I've found the Galco Ankle Glove to be more comfortable than the Alessi and half the price. Many people I work with ankle carry G26/G27s and a huge majority of us use the Galco Ankle Glove, and that's my recommendation. BTW, a G27 loaded with 9+1 in an Ankle Glove weighs just over 2 pounds, but it's totally do-able.
I carry a 27 Gen4 in a Galco Ankle Glove also. Once you get used to it, you don't notice it anymore. I was carrying a S&W Airweight as a BUG, but when my department switched from the Beretta 96 to the .40 S&W Glocks, I switched to the G27. It is nice to have a BUG that has much better sights, twice the ammunition capacity, and uses the same mags as my duty gun (23 RTF2).
