Have a gen3 G17 that started not locking back from time to time. Thought it was follower at first but when cycling by hand the follower is activating slide stop solidly. What else should I look at?

Grip placement.

So after 2000+ rounds just this summer with no issues. The last 100 rounds with issues equals grip? What can I check mechanically?

Check your slide stop for cracks or chips.  I had an aftermarket extended slide stop break after a few years.

It's quite possible.

What kind of condition is your RSA in? Have you seen other issues from too much slide velocity?

Closer inspection found a bent corner on the slide stop. Minor massaging with pliers took care of it.  I am sure that this comer accentuated grip catch in this area. Will test tomorrow. 99.9% sure problem is solved. However what the heck is RSA?

Will be replacing RSA as precaution ( Know what is now.). Also wil be replacing slide stop as precaution. Thanks for the insight guys.

Make sure when you put it back together after replacing the part that you do it in the correct order.   If the top pin (locking block pin) is not inserted before the slide release, the spring will not be positioned correctly.    If the spring isn't underneath the locking block pin you'll get the slide locking back when the mag is still full.

It isn't a bad idea to replace the recoil spring.  The gen 4 springs will last longer but they are saying to replace them around 3000 rounds now, even on the 9s.

I would definetly recommend changing out the slide stop.  They are inexpensive and once they bend they get weaker.  If you only have a few thousand rounds down the pipe your recoil spring assembly does not need to be replaced.
