Ok. I was thinking G34 - 9mm - Compatible mags for G19, etc....  I am still getting used to Glock.  Damn things are like tinker-toys. (Yeah, I know. I am showing my age.)  Lego's for you younger guys!

Now I am reading you can buy a G35, get a 40-9 drop in barrel.  Use G17/34 mags and have 2 calibers.  I like shooting 9mm, cheap, accurate.  (I don't have the dies for 40 cal reloads either.  I have shot new ammo exactly once in the last year.)   That said, 40 brass is all over the range.

So, what am I giving up in reliability by getting a G35 and swapping barrels, over the G34?   Or should I just get the G34 and be fat and happy?

Dunno about the conversion barrels and such, but I was in the same spot you are about 3 months ago.  I just decided to get the 34 and I love it.  I don't really have a use for a .40 unless I want to shoot Major power factor.  9mm is so cheap to load and most my other guns are 9mm.  Worst case is I have to buy another Glock.  I prefer .45ACP to 40 anyhow.  I got the 9 and just shoot the crap out of it.

I have a G35 with a 40-9 conversion no issues to speak of.
Nice to brave two calibers in one gun....

I thought about the same but also ended up just buying the model 34.

I reload 9mm and don't have much desire to load .40 (I don't really need to since I can shoot a bunch of it on the clock anyway).   I spend enough time at the loader with three calibers, I don't need a fourth, and 9 is still cheaper to load than .40 anyway.      I figured I would be ahead to just save the $100 barrel purchase and shoot more 9mm.

If you plan on shooting USPSA Production or IDPA SSP, a conversion barrel is a no-go for shooting 9mm.  You will have to download .40 to minor power factor to be legal and competitive.

ETA I only bring it up because many times, the 34/35 is bought for a competition platform.

I love my Gen 4 G34.  I just need a new guide rod to change the recoil spring and some trigger springs now.

I think this is the final answer I was looking for.  Those USPSA and IDPA rules thing gets a lot of folks hung up.  - Guess I will stick with G34.
I have been shooting a XDM 3.8 - .45 at both.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts!

I carry 34.  I favor 9mm to 40 for carry.  Just don't think 40 is enough better than 9 terminally in 2 legged deer to bother.  I do think 45 is a somewhat meaningful improvement but still prefer lighter, more capacity, faster follow up shots.  Plus there is the whole thing of 40 cal glocks beiing iffy.  Probably matters not at all in full size...

I would get the 35 is I wanted to carry 40 and get the 9mm conversion barrel just for the range.  I would not carry a 35 w/ conversion barrel w/o extensive proof testing.

if you decide on a 35, would suggest an adjustable rear sight to make up for the point of impact difference when you change barrels... my competition pistol is a 34....

True statement. Even though I like the quality of the Lone Wolf barrel.. the conversion is just for the range...

As for the 9mm v 40 debate...everyone has their preference and I am in no position to say one is better than the other.

Ended with the G34.  I already load 9mm and would need new dies, bullets, load data, etc.  The mags are interchangable. (At least one way.)
I've put 300 rounds down the pipe.

First night out I took it apart, checked that it was good to go.  Went to the range and put about 20 rounds on a target to check accuracy.  Then went to a small IPSC match and finshed 6th out of about 25.  For me, that is awesome.

Just a word of caution... Since I bought my 34, 9mm has been hard to come by in my house.  It's almost as if I go through it much faster

G34 owner here....it gets the most range time for me and is my IDPA pistol of choice.  Just a darn good pistol for the price and out of the box.  What's not to love??

Look up the 25 cent trigger job.  The 34 is a fantastic pistol.  I have done some mods to mine but nothing outrageous.  For competition I installed a Zev race ready connector, lightened trigger springs, (about $25 so far), 25 cent trigger job and did install a metal guide rod.  While no 1911 trigger, it is pretty nice.
