So?
What do you all think of it?

Will this round really even stick around?

Kinda think they would have brought this out in a compact of pocket pistol considering this round is supposed to  help a 45 be more compact.

not sure, supposed to have a few new models at the shot show.  My father bought one b/c it fit his hand better, but I have not seen much brass at the ranges.  Loading data isn't too different than 45 ACP, just need the brass and make sure not to mix up 45 acp and GAP brass.  You don't want to put a large pistol primer in a small primer case.

I think it will die

Too few pistols chambered for it, does nothing .45acp wont do.    It makes up for the one thing the .40 lacks....adequate caliber.   It's doomed, the .45 guys will buy the acp.   The .40 crowd will insist theirs is big enough.   This leaves keyboard commandos and noobies.   Not enough reason to survive.

Have any police departments picked it up yet? That'll determine whether it lives or dies.

It will go visit the caliber graveyard and say hi to things like the .41 AE...

It will likely die, unless glock puts EVERYTHING it has into making it happen.

The perceived benefits are overhyped, and the round is and will likely stay overpriced.

I agree but hate to hear that as for someone with a small grip like myself this was really a nice idea....

I wish they would bring out a nice compact or sub compact version as for me it would be a great CCW

I saw a magazine with a guy holding a Glock chambered in .45acp and .45gap and the grip size difference wasn't very big. But I guess it would make a diff if you have small hands.

i think the gimmick was acp slide on a 9/40 body

handling them s/s the 37 is a bit smaller

chamber walls look WAY thin.  kaboom thin.

the question i had walking away was:  under what circumstance would i carry this out of the house instead of a g22?

never

+1 on thinking they should have put it in a compact 1st.  makes a lot more sense than a full size, imho

Well this is why I will be going with .40 for CCW.
I wish I had the hands for a .45 BUT I have to be comfortable with what I shoot.

I am not comfortable with SA pieces for CCW (if I could carry on my hip maybe but here in MI you have to carry so no one knows you are carrying)  and there is just not a .45 in DA/SA which I have held that has felt comfortable and controlable in my hands.

If the .45 gap was to become more common and other people were to produce it odds are it would be my ideal ccw BUT people with small hands like me are the minority and there arent enough of us for the .45 gap to take off.

A friend of mine works for Glock, INC and hinted that Glock will introduce the G38 & G39 at "SHOT" next month. The G38 is supposed to be the 45GAP subcompact. The GAP case is not a 45ACP shortened, it is a re-enforced/re-designed case. IIRC Kimber is chambering a pistol in the 45GAP and XD already has one available. I do know that LAPD approved the G37 but as far as I know it is not a issue weapon.

Kinda funny how the .45 GAP is not even on Glocks website.....

If they made it in a compact of sub compact I would most likely buy one to have.

I'd have to disagree with that - it does ballistically (in the tests I've seen, anyway) at least what a .45ACP will do but in a smaller package.   If cartridge/handgun/grip size doesn't matter to you at all, then you're right - it "does nothing .45acp wont do."

Mind you, I'm not saying it will succeed - just pointing out that it does have a reasonable purpose & could fill a niche...

FTR, I considered buying one earlier this year & actually went to do it - came home with a G21 (.45ACP) instead.  But I still might try one down the road...

Most SA pistols have more manual controls than the glock, if you are uncomfortable carrying a SA auto concealed why on earth would you be happy with the glock?     If you fancy a slim .45acp in a DA you might consider the Para ordnance LDA single stack.

Yes I know this is posted in the Glock forum and I'll probably need a nomex suit to survive the flaming I'll get from the above SA/Glock comments....  just deal with it folks, I've owned glocks and SA autos.

Back to the original question, GAP is doomed.   So is the .357sig, the .41E was a great cartridge with lots of advantages but couldnt stand the test of time.    None of these will ever do any better than the .41magnum.   You can find it in gunshops usually but your average hardware store will never stock it and when you left your stash at home you wont be able to find it near your shooting/hunting/fishing spot.  It shall be forever obscure and a curiosity regardless of how whizbang neato it may be.

I recieved my new Glock 37 last week and I love it. Its a perfect fit for my hands. I took it to the range and it shoots very nicely. The .45 GAP ammo is harder to find and about $12 for a 50rd. box of CCI Lawman but the .45 power is definately worth the it. This is my first Glock and Im impressed and hooked on them now. I ordered a Streamlight M-3X light and Im impressed with how nice a unit it is also. Ive heard some bad talk about the older M-3's but this new improved version I couldnt see anything wrong with.  It is truely "SUPER" bright. I love my new Glock 37 with the M-3X setup. Now Im just waiting on my Trijjicons to arrive to make it even better.

If only HK liked this round...

I would love a P2000 in the .45 gap

For now it looks like I will be sticking with the 9 mm for a CCW.

.45 gap  Glock they need it in a subcompact

.40 cal scares me with all the KB stories I have heard in the boards the past couple days since I have really started to look for a CCW piece.

The new subcompact G39 (six rounds) and  compact G38 (8 rounds) will be announced at the shot show at end of January. Gun writers will be testing the pistols the day before the show begins.

Glock is definitely throwing some muscle behind their new caliber.  Basicially, the GAP was designed to do what standard velocity ACP does, except the GAP is more flexible for fitting into 9/40 sized pistols and small guns, as well as the full sized ones. Since multiple agencies are starting to authorize the GAP and since it has 16 factory loads, and since Springfield is coming out with 3 GAP models, and CZ and possibly others have working models that they are testing, I'd say the new GAP is doing pretty well for a brand new caliber.  It seems to be finding a lieast a little niche to exist in. Folks that actually test the GAP seem to like it. Another nice feature of the GAP is that the brass is really tough, adding a level of security against blow outs. nuff said.

The bullet I believe is the same weight and he same velocity. The shell casing is also stouter due to the higher chamber pressure. Equal to .45 ACP but I think it will die.

How frequent are  blow outs?  I have never had one.  I've seen many cracked .45 ACP cases fire fine.  The pressure is not that high.

What is a box of 50 230gr FMJ rounds going for?  Is the price on par with .45acp?
